60" Sharp Aquos any good?

This thing is on sale for $1200 and comes with a 15" Coby for free ($100 value). So, it's really $1100 if you can sell off the Coby.

I know it is not going to be awesome, but is this screen going to be good? I am mostly interested in knowing that I will get acurate blacks.

Also, what Blue Ray player would be good? Wireless ethernet would be nice. Any compelling reason to stick with Sharp?

Aquos is a well respected line of Sharp. They have better, they have worse. I have a 42" aquos and we also use Aquos as our first choice in yacht and maritime AV system installations.

I'm quite satisfied with my set. It did however take just a wee bit of nagging in the menu to get her calibrated right. Mostly it was the sharps color correction that didn't let me add enough red, so I had to reduce the other two to bring the colors in line. Not a huge deal, most people wouldn't even have bothered.

Ditto. I bought a 2009 model 46" Aquos last year and it's a fantastic set once calibrated away from the default insanely bright/saturated store display settings.

PS3. Really it's one of the best, and best supported blu-ray players on the market. As a bonus it's also a UPNP device, and a gaming console!

A co-worker has one. He says it is noisy (coling fans I think he said were the cause). And I have no interest in the gaming aspect. The only bonus is the wireless ethernet for Netflix but I already have a Wii. I should add that if I do get Blue Ray now, I am keeping it well under $200.

I don't know why people say they are noisy. Does he have the slim model or the old fat model? I have the fat model and it is absolutely silent.

His is an older version (not slim). he says once it is running for a while the fan kicks on and it gets noisy.

I know what a cheap DVD player sounds liek and what my Pioneer Elite DVD player sound like. It's like night and day.

Regradless, I have no interest in paying money for a PS3 because I do not want a gaming console, I want a Blue Ray player.

Any name brand Blu-ray player should do in that case (LG, Sony, Samsung, etc.). I'm not an expert in that area though, so maybe someone else can recommend some more specific models.

i love my sharp aquos 32". i think i like the picture on it more than my samsung 42" tv.

Wow. Seems like a pretty good deal. I was just kicking around picking up the 55" Toshiba 55HT1U - it's under a grand from Newegg shipped. But I haven't found much feedback on it and, on the flipside, people generally seem to like their Aquos sets.

That 15" Coby would be a nice little bedroom TV too...

I went and looked at The 60" Aquos (it was on the floor) and it seemd like the response time (10 ms, etc ) sucks. When fast scenes occured, it looked like 2 frames existed on screen at once.

And oddly, the Sharp Aquos sets do not give this number under specifications.

When looking at the Aquos and more expensive TVs next to it, it was like night and day. So, I did not buy it.

The onyl other thing to note that would effect response tiems is that hte Aquos TV was much brighter than the others so the effect of response time may have been more forceful due to longer transition times at hte brighter setting. Black to white to black for example would be slower.

Personally TV's are very subjective. I have always calibrated mine since 199x. Most don't like a calibrated TV at first.

I'd look at a bunch and try to look at them at different stores too.

That freebie TV will net you $50 if you are lucky on the resale once costs are factored in. It'd be better to keep it for another room, even the laundry.

I am getting ready to upgrade my TV...I wish I had the cash for the KUROs. Shakes fist at the economy.
