60 Pound Robot fights 2 30 Pound Robots

Cool!, also pleased to read "Battlebots" has been revived and ABC will air a 6 episode run of the show this summer, I always loved it, seeing what kind of weapons people could come up with. AFAIK the only thing off-limits was the use of explosives.http://deadline.com/2015/02/battlebots-revival-reality-series-abc-summer-1201367663/
The problem with Battlebots was that tried and tested competition proved that flippers were the most versatile type of robot, especially ones that were built low to the ground. Which made the competition rather boring when the bots were reduced to flippers and bots that would lose to flippers.

Maybe they need to start making different weapon classes to keep things interesting. Unless they do that already...

What was the 2 smaller bots weapon supposed to actually be? That little fire won't do much to a metal robot in such short bursts like that I'd imagine. Or were they flippers also that never got a chance?

I've always wanted to see a no designs barred type robot competition; maybe capture the flag or team deathmatch.

It would probably need to be held at some sort of military range with cameras everywhere for coverage.

Could have various categories based on funding, so your garage built hobby bot doesn't have to go up against some DARPA prototype.

Pretty sure "flippers also that never got a chance."

The only thing I could think of was that the big bot looked to have a rubber belt driving its weapon. Enough heat MIGHT have melted it, but it would have taken a sustained burst which would have been tricky. Might have been a chain and not a belt though.

i see these things haven't changed. boring as fuck.

all the robots are the same. low profile wedge to flip over the other ones.

other than looking cool, the flamethrower is useless...ooh, a 1 second burst of flame on a metal chassis...so. much. damage.

They need to do something to prevent the dominance of wedge/flippers. Maybe make the terrain more challenging? Put in hills, bumps, ditches that they *must* cross over? Not sure.

True, I remember that and then people started building Bot's that could run fine even when flipped so you wound up with a slow elimination of the exciting style of Bot's with exotic weapons because they would lost to a flipper Bot almost every time.

LOL @ Militarized Roomba comment on youtube.

That thing is beastly!

When those kind of bots showed up in the in the UK all that happened was more powerful flippers showed up. There was a bot called chaos2 that had some kind of hydraulic flipper, it just flipped the other bots right out of the arena.
