60" Plasma ... is $1100 shipped good?

EDIT: Damn it Google. J&R links to a 50" at J&R, not a 60". So, with the superbowl nearing will such a deal come up (60" for under $1100)?

Ya, so I have been seeking the holy grail. $999 shipped for a 60" LCD or Plasma new. Well, I found a 60" LCD from J&R for $1100 shipped.

Is this thing good? I don't care about features as much as I care about image quality. I want accurate blacks, etc.

Is this thing any good?

LG - 60PK550C - 60" plasma TV - 1080p (FullHD)

eCost has it for $50 less but I figure that J&R is a mor reputable place that I have bought form many times.

My understanding is that the best black levels now are from Panasonic, until after the first 1000 hours, at which point they rise to the same level of a Samsung. So if image quality is important, I'd look at those two manufactures. If price is more important, you'll have to accept on losing out on image quality.

i paid $1500 for the LG60PX950 and it looks as good as the GT25/VT25 in my house. especially since $1500 doesn't go along way on the VT25 lol. maybe 50" tops. 60" is far superior for 1080p watching. if you love 720p go 42-50" because i couldn't tell the difference at smaller screen sizes close-up. And i do have good vision.

I like the LG deal because it comes with 2 3d glasses, it's a looker (great stand). it's 2" thick for wall-mounting - important - THX mode in 2D and 3D - honestly i just set it out of the box to THX Bright room and it looks perfect - no need to calibrate. i'm sure i could squeeze something more out of it if i get the huey pro out but just looks fantastic as-is. i guess that is why it is THX certified.

I'd take the 60" PX950 over the 50" VT25 any day. i'm sorry but size does count. 10" is alot extra to take in (heh) esp if you watch any 2.35 or 4:3

I'd say that's a damn good deal. My parents paid that for their 52'' Samsung plasma last year. Then again, I live in Canada where we get gouged on everything. So who knows...

well if it was a full year ago, prices were higher, there was a glut of panels or something, driving the prices way low recently.

Nah, they're still around that. Decent ones start at about $900 for a 50''. Prices are slow to drop here due to the higher import fees, etc.

the new LG LED LCD uses passive glasses. these are far superior to active shutter. But plasma just looks oh damn that much nicer. and i've received two firmware upgrades in the last month. which means LG is holding their promise to fix small niggles and keep the streaming services up to date.

I think you will be happy with the LG 60" if you can stand the glare.

rule: best plasma on the planet has worst anti-glare than a $199 cheapie lcd tv

shipped? even 50" box requires a truck. and thats a 50", far smaller than 60".

B+M only. 649.00 for a 50" Panasonic plasma is a good price. Costco extends the warranty extra year. If you use AMX card to purchase you get a 3 year warranty.

no, reviews of the ces passive stuff don't show it to be the killer app tech. such tv's still have major issues, reducing resolution by half once again, which is even worse for broadcast 3d. the light is cut at the screen even more, and the viewing angles are supposed to be even worse i think. just not a good tech.
