Am I the only one who sees straight through the movie (and record) industry's claims that their sales are down strictly due to piracy?

A large part of it is.

And you know that...how?

How do you know it isn't ?

And there is something that strikes me as illogical that at the same time piracy or movies and music is going on that an argument is made that the product isn't any good. If that was true nobody would pirate it, would they ?

Not necessarily. A friend of mine up on campus downloads gigs of movies, music, all the latest computer and console games, etc. Most of it sucks, and he never does anything with it, he just wants to have it.

actually some shoplifters exhibit this behavior too, they simply toss what they steal after they get away with it. its more for the thrill and stuff then for the item.

People just aren't hitting the theatres as much anymore. Why pay that much for a movie when I can rent it for for a fraction of the price in a couple months, or hell, even buy it for a few bucks more when it's released in a few months?

no matter what your watching a 1/3 of a mega pixel image at home on dvd at best. on a dinky screen. the theaters around me atleast have delt with it, they have all been remodeled and upgraded with nice stadium seating, very large screens and great sound, and even clean bathrooms, or are completely new, the number of new megaplexes going up amazes me, and how crowded they are on weekends is amazing, so your argument is kinda iffy to me. even arthouse theaters are upgrading, there are some new cinarts century theaters that show smaller films with full quality facilities, no ghetto hole in the wall theater with dim projector bulbs, small screens and uncomfortable seats. matinee at these theaters doesn't go over 7 dollars, a dvd rental at blockbuster is 3.50? last time i checked for a dvd, i use netflix now so i dunno. i use dvds for the bonus features and for ones i miss at the theater, but it is not an equivalent experience, even though its convenient. i have some imax dvds too, doesn't mean its anywhere near as good.
