60 Hz games problem in Windows 2000. _What_ is the culprit?

What video card do you have? For Nvidia cards, install this:

For other cards, I dunno, but Powerdesk (I think that's the app, others talk about it here too) has the fixes too. You can go and modify the registry to force refresh rates, but if you aren't keen into playing with the registry, stay out. All the tweak utilities do is mess with the registry anyhow, but it does fix the 60Hz problem under Win2k.

I have a Voodoo 3 and with voodooselector, it doesn't work. It just gives me a white screen, and I'm sure my monitor is capable of 1024x768 @ 100Hz, it's a SyncMaster 700NF. Maybe I'll try the Powerstrip stuff. But what is actually the fault?

What about my prob?

I have a Radeon and I have a 75 fps limit in UT. Kinda irritating. Vsync is off.

Try this.

Select the same DESKTOP resolution as your game, say "Starcraft(640x486x256/16bit - I dont know)".

Go to that DESKTOP resolution and select the refresh for THAT.

then go back to your original desktop resolution.

It does tend to work.

Just tried the Powerstrip stuff.

*Announcer* And now..... number 23 from North Carolina..... please welcome..... BSOD a.k.a. automatic REBOOOOOOOOOOT

Id like to know this too

I am using a voodoo selector and it makes all of my opengl games take up like 1/4 of my 17 inch monitor, with the rest of the space being just blank black space.

I know it does this res at 85 hz... 😛

theres an app out there that fixes it most of the time. Search for nvidia win2k refresh fix, or something similar, you'll find it. Funny thing is, to *me* it seems like the desktop is still 60hz, the mouse is slightly jerky.... but in games my framerate is fine, maxes at the 85 my refresh should be. try that util and see if it works for you.
FYI for some of you, this problem only affects nvidia cards in win2k (as far as I know it's a Det3 thing)
