Maetryx here,

I just picked this up at SAMS Club today. It did not involve any rebates, coupons, price matching, or chicken sacrifices. It is a Western Digital model WD600ABRTL.
- 60 GB
- Average Seek Time 9.5 ms
- Buffer Size 2 MB
- Ultra ATA/100
- 5400 rpm
- $105.00

Hmmmmmm. That does suck. I'm in Alaska, so undoubtedly this is the hottest deal I have access to. UPS does not ship Ground to Alaska, so I always have to add $20+ for 2nd Day Air. So $105 here is like $85 "there", so I'm 80% still happy.

is it one of those newer 60 gig'ers with the special platter size which makes it faster than those normal 5400rpm drives?

Ohhh, we're actually getting deals in Fairbanks? Normally we're excluded. Nice, maybe I should pick this up and throw it on my Promise controller.

yes, these new drives use 30 gig platters, and the increased areal density increases transfer speed.

Check for the price drop and get some money back. That's what I did. The price dropped from $112 to $84, and I got the difference back.

Can you do a pricematch when the lower price happened before you bought it? As in, go buy it for $105, then go back and say "last week you had it for $85, I want a pricematch" ? It seems to me like that wouldn't work.

It a little weird that the price would go up on a clearance item. I can?t remember the last time that has happened. Unless it just hasn?t gotten that low in that region yet. Ape Out.
