I just hooked up a 60ft red mere from monoprice to my hd directv and now having problems.

I get a hdcp message that my "tv does not support....." It is a samsung 59" which is about a year old and according to the specs on their website is hdcp compliant.

I was trying to run through receiver but when that didn't work went straight from the directv box to the tv. No luck. I moved the box back to the room with the tv and ran a short hdmi and there was no problem.

I tried what other have suggested and tried powering on and off the tv and box alternatively but it doesn't help.

Any suggestions???

Turn them both off. Turn the TV on first, wait 5 seconds and then turn on the DTV box. HDCP handshakes are a pain.

Have you checked to make sure that you are plugging the "source" end of the cable into your signal source and the "display" end into your TV? The cable ends should be clearly marked. It makes a difference with these active cables as there is an amplifier in only one end of the cable.

I did make sure that the direction was right. I also tried to have the tv on for probably more than 5 seconds also. Any other ideas? May have to try another brand?

Try swapping ends too. Maybe the ends got mislabeled. Maybe you got a defective cable? Try hooking it up to some other devices too.

I own a 6, 15 and 50ft RedMere all work great.

Contact Monoprice support: http://www.monoprice.com/home/home.asp?pn=chat they are pretty good. All else fails they can get it exchanged for you.

Have you used another HDMI cable with the Direct TV box? Might need to contact Direct TV if any others don't work. Could also be a setting. Unsure though....

Check the reviews there is two positive reviews using it on there Direct TV box with no issue. One said not to use any port savers on the Display end.

Good luck. ;)

I will call their tech support see if that helps.

Before I "fished" the cable I hooked it up to the box and it worked. I thought I was thinking ahead I think the difference is when I tried that I did not have to unplug the box as it was in the same room. When I unplugged and moved it it reboots and probably does the handshake thing.

I did eliminate the port savers so that it is just cable to cable. I do get signal picture and sound on non-HD channels....it is the HD channels that is displays the message.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I hooked it up to my Blu-ray player last night and that seems to work fine. Not enough "power" from the direct tv box for the booster chip??

Any other ideas?

You could either try another Direct TV box (maybe different model) or an HDMI switch with built in Equalizer (amplifier) and save 20% with this coupon: INCENTIVE

You will need to subscribe to there Newsletter first. More info in my Hot Deals thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2295445 (Grab some other goodies too as you can only use that coupon once. Some items are already 25% off so with this coupon makes them 45%. Check out the thread.)

Like this Powered 3X1 HDMI switch with Equalizer for $19.72 (after 20% off): http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=8462&seq=1&format=2
