Years ago, I bought a $60 5.1 theatre system from at Walmart. Just 100 watts, but it is perfect for a small room, remote control, speaker controls, and even optical input. I bought a Durabrand, but that Durabrand was supplied by Lenoxx. Lenoxx is out of business and Durabrand does not sell such a system.

Are there any cheap 5.1 systems available?

This is what I bought, but nothing is available at Amazon. Linky

You can get a basic refurb Onkyo HTIB for ~$150+shipping, but $100 or under is going to be really tough to get something that isn't bad.

What are you hoping to hook up to this? If it's computer as source, you should just get a set of computer speakers.

If you are after a $60 5.1 system, you actually can get some on Amazon. Select home theater systems on the left side of the amazon main page and then sort by price ascending. There's a bunch of those kind of systems you're talking about.
