Okey just played some ow on the new LG 27GN950-b comming from 3-4 year old lg ips 4k 60HZ. Man, it is like all the other players is moving half speed as earlier. An entire new experience and just so superior. Desktop and office is also much smooter. So i think i will keep this new LG for office and gaming and try 240Hz for mostly gaming. Size 27.
There is a new samsung odessey g7 running 240, but its curved.
If i change between curved and non curved will it hurt my ranking and win/lose ratio?

How is 1440p vs. 4k - i think it will be enough for me but its a guess?
What do you think of curved 27 screens for gaming?

LG 27GN750-B is 1080p, 240 Hz, 27 inch IPS display.
The same goes for Dell AW2721HF/HFL
And for Asus VG279QM(280Hz, actually)

There is plenty of brilliant 240 Hz 1080p displays.

Dell AW2521HF/HFL models.
Asus VG259QM(280 Hz).

I think it's too small to satisfy unless you live in a van down by the river. ;)

I also think that curved doesn't have nearly as much benefit on a smaller screen, unless you are sitting very, very close to it.

I would like to live in a van by the river. Not all this mess ;)

Due to old eyes, not playing with my glasses, i will play 60-70 cm or aprox 25-30 inches fro the screen. What size / resolution is good then?

25 inch is good enough for 60 cm from the screen.

At that distance, and at that space from the screen even 1080p is good enough.

Congrats! Going from 60Hz to a 144Hz gaming monitor is a huge difference, a revolution in smoothness and lower input lag. 144 to 240 is more of an evolution but still worthwhile in my opinion, just don't expect anywhere near as large a difference as going from a 60 regular monitor to a 144 gaming monitor.

Benq Zowie make very good monitors, I would recommend the 24.5" XL2546K or the 27" XL2746S. Unfortunately they don't make 1440p 240Hz monitors, and they tend to use TN panels for highest performance so if you want IPS or VA get a different brand.

Also before you spend money on a 240Hz monitor keep in mind that some 360Hz monitors have come onto the market in the past few weeks, and they're actually IPS panels too. Unsurprisingly they're more expensive.

Nice. 60-144 is a huge improvement in any game that can maintain the framerate, and even on the desktop.

I remember back in the day many people used to argue that LCD monitors don't have refresh rates, and a few of us were saying how much better high refresh rates are. :D The best you could get was 75hz LCDs or 85-110hz on CRTs up until 2010 or so, when 120hz started to appear in 3D monitors, and even that was not even advertised as a key feature (independent of 3D) for some time.

Yeaa i dont know what took me so long. Back in the start 90ties oc the crt to aprox 80Hz gave excellent results for everything. So why 60Hz became standard is weird.
Man now i have to select between 27" 240 1440 and 24.5" 280/360 1080. Perhaps i should try a cheap asus 280. I am a lousy ow player in bronce/silver despite hundreds of hrs and will never progress. My kids is gold/platinum+ whatever with 20% as much time. Lol. They can get the 280 so i can get the 360 if 24.5 1080 is okey.

Im OW player as well. Work on your game sense. That is way more important that the hardware you play on. You can get to Plat/Diamond even on 60Hz display.

But if you are really focused on improving - get at least 1080p/144 Hz display. 240 Hz maybe will help a little but the difference is not that huge.

Here are two good videos on the topic.

I am 100% sure you are right. Hardware means next to nothing at that level. I think the basic problem is i dont want to learn. I dont get enough dopamine learning that stuff. Heck i cant even remember a quarter of the caracters names. My kids complain, say i should change caracter what not, and i have to buy them new accounts they keep at low ranking so we can play together.

Will force myself to give your vids a look. Thx.
What do you do to keep learning?

Its simply what I want. I want to get better at this game. Maybe thats my competitive nature, that keeps pushing me?

I play mainly Support.

And watch tons of Overwatch Coaching on certain channels from certain Youtubers, which play this game and are way better than me.

channels to watch: Stylosa, SVB, Your Overwatch. Even Samito would be great. He even talked lately about postioning, the balance of the game, in the context of Brigitte nerf on Experimental card.

Congrats!
That's a powerful rig you got there.. you should get the G9.
Have you considered the LG 49WL95C-W?

As for which is better between 1440p144/240 vs 2160p120, only you can answer that question (please do share with us your discoveries)
I think it also depends on the games. Personally, I prefer slow games on big high-res displays.

Seems like everyone is shopping well this year?
My new 49" Samsung CHG90 will arrive tomorrow... ;-)
I went with it because I'm stuck with an eGPU GTX1080 for now... a bit underpowered for newer ultrawides.
Not part of my plan/budget, but, I accidentally dropped my Razer Blade Stealth on my cheap-but-good 43" Leeco TV.
Been running that at 2160p60 4:4:4 + 1440p60 for years.
Prior to that, I had 3x 1440p60, part of my big build back in 2012..

BTW, mounting kits for these 49" ultrawide are ridiculously expensive!!
But since I'm living in a van down by the river :D

Its there. You can even see it at the mouse cursor in windows.
I will take 500Hz when it comes :)

Heck even my s20 is setup for 120hz at the expense at resolution.

Moved from high bronce to low plat in ow :)

What video card are you running?
If you do not have the sufficient video card power, having a higher refresh rate is pretty much moot.

I only play ow on that pc on 1080 and on low. Some midrange navi think its 5600. Cap at 240 as thats where my 1% min is aprox. Hope to get that to 280.

Thanx for the coaching vids advice. See a lot of stylosa. Like bronce heroes most.
What helped my gameplay most was seeing my own games and my position. Only play torb except a few junks here and there. Hope to get into diamond in a month or two. And stay there.

How many games per season do you play?

Dont know. But an hour or two a day. So a lot.
My mechanical skills and creativity is crap, but positioning and keeping the game under control is fine.
If i have to be good at a dps besides torb what would you recommend?

Torb is easy for beginner but actually quite difficult to be top good at due to aiming. Was thinking of also going hanzo.

Unfortunately my talent for tank is bad and same for healer but brig seems very fun.

There are two types of DPSes.

Hitscan: Soldier 76, Ashe, etc those who click, and you see immediate effect on the display, or death scores :p, and Projectile: Hanzo, Torb. Those who can aim where the opponent will be in a second, instead of aiming directly at them. If you are not comfortable with Projectiles, as you say, you may try the old school FPS type DPS - Soldier 76.

I haven't tried on 240 yet. How was it?
I guess its very personal. I only played a little on the lg 144, before going 240 all the time so you have to ask others. When my ram and cpu alows i will play 280 for sure. Just feels more relaxing to me than 144. Less stressfull. Less clusterfuck feeling.
I think we will see 500hz screens in a few years. I will get one.
Its very visible just on a mouse cursor on the desktop.
