6 years old too young to see puppies being born?

Rhodesian ridgeback puppies due any day now....is it ok for a 6 year old to witness the miracle of birth?

I think young kids should be exposed to natural events as early as possible.

It amazes me that so many parents think its OK to let kids watch an anvil falling on a skull but are disgusted with the things required for a species to continue existing.

I saw it at about the age of 9. At one of the births (she had multiple), I saw our dog bite the snout off of the first puppy that came out. It still haunts me to this day.

My older brother accidently stepped on and killed a newborn puppy when he was a little kid. Two lessons about life for the price of one!

I agree with the statements above... the sooner you can expose them to reality the better.

But be prepared to answer honestly a lot of questions about conception and birth....

I have never witnessed a birth myself. So I couldn't tell you if I am worse off because of it.

That being said, I don't know that I have suffered any ill effects from being "sheltered". But I don't think I would have been negitivily affected by being unsheltered either.

6, I might consider otherwise (depends on the maturity of the 6 year old). But I would not hold it against you for letting him see.

As already stated, it's fine. I've seen animals slaughtered for the family to eat as early as I can remember, not that I would take a kid to a slaughter house. I healthy for them to learn such natural aspects of life. From birth to death.

I probably would have made sure it did, just so it didn't suffer.

Is it okay? In fact, I'd recommend it. It's a shame that some parents think they should keep their kids insulated from the facts of life until they're 12 years old or older.

My daughter watched our dog have puppies when she was five. It was an excellent learning experience.

i think it's fine to let them. it's part of the circle of life.

it's fine. Farmers would have their kids help with birthing on their animals as soon as they were old enough to walk.

i wouldn't go out of my way to show my kids, but if they are there and it wouldn't bother the delivery so be it. you can get caught up in the 'miracle of birth' idea, but in reality its a pretty disgusting visual. just look at all the people that got grossed out with the frog shedding baby frogs off its back.

My aunt loves the ridgebacks. Her current one is getting pretty old and my uncle is next in line to choose a dog, but I can't see her not having a ridgeback.
