Hey all-

I got a new motherboard (MSI K7T Pro) the otehr day and I cannot seem to run the 6.xx drivers on my Creative Labs GeForce 2 GTS 32MB (Annihilator 2). The result is a hard lock after under 2 mins of gameplay in ANY game.. although 3DMark2000 seems to run fine.

Any help is MUCH appreciated, thanks!

PS: The 5.22 drivers run fine...

rgr... so this is a very common problem? Not being able to use 6.xx? Is NVidia aware of the problem?

Welcome to the club, I'm forced to use Detonator 5.30's :) I'd use them anyway, since Deus Ex seems to run faster and with less visual glitches on them than on any 6.xx version. On my system 6.3x drivers are much more stable on KT133 than 6.1x's, go with 'em if you want to keep using Det3's.

Disabling Fast Writes works for this problem on other KT133 motherboards, but MSI K7Tpro's current BIOS (mine is 1.2) doesn't have the feature to disable 'em. I emailed MSI about whether next BIOS will have the feature, but they replied that it's Nvidia's problem, not theirs. And right they are.

Thanks for the scoop! Hopefully NVidia can get their act together with the KT133 chipset pretty soon. Until then I'll just stick with 5.22, they run flawless!

Thanks again!

Nighthawk69:

No problem with my setup. I ran the 5.22 and 6.18 drivers, and am currently using the 6.31 drivers without a problem. I DID have the problem you described with games locking up after getting my new mobo. What I did was format my hard drive, disable ACPI during setup (i.e. D:\setup /p i), and installed the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, USB drivers, DirectX 7.0a, and finally the video drivers. It solved my problem. It is VERY important that you install the VIA drivers BEFORE anything else. Question: Did you install the new motherboard without formatting your hard drive? That is a big NO NO.

The reason you want to format your hard drive AFTER you install a new motherboard is because of the different chipset drivers, bus mastering drivers, etc. that are currently installed. Leaving the old ones in there can cause some serious problems, and there is really no way to uninstall them without seriously disabling your configuration. It's best to just do a format. I'm assuming this person upgraded from an older Intel BX or AMD motherboard, so, it's best to do a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows. If they just swapped out one BX board for another, it probably wouldn't matter. This should be common knowledge with people that test/review computer hardware for a living, and they will tell you the same thing. It's not necessary to do it, but it's highly recommended to avoid those nasty lockups, crashes, and the dreaded BSOD.

Note: I upgraded from a Intel BX mobo to a new VIA KT133 mobo (ABIT KT7), first, without doing a format and was having lockups galore. I had already backed up all my necessary files, so, formatting was no big deal.

I upgraded from an SD-11 and did a reformat, plus I also installed the VIA 4-in-1 BEFORE anything else...
