ok i read somewhere online that there is this technique where you sleep for EXACTLY 20 minutes EVERY 4 hours and after a couple of weeks, you feel more rested than if you slept 8 hours a night. Supposedly, after your body gets used to sleeping those weird schedules, it falls into "REM sleep" immediately, which is "real" sleep. So you're getting 6 X 20 minutes = 2 hours. Which is more than the average person gets in an 8 hour night of sleep. This is evidently the technique used by ben franklin, einstein, and other notable people who catnap but accomplish an incredible amount of things because they never "slept." Anyone have any experience with this?

hmm... is that true??

I wonder if taking a 20 minute nap includes that time it takes to fall asleep?

20 minute naps at work would be good too

I just can't picture anyone here negotiating with their bosses for 'naptime'.

We used to do that at work a lot during lunchtime. Sometimes we'd go back to work and leave someone for dead. We've even done it to one of the bosses a couple of times!

Whoever we leave usually shows up an hour or two later feeling pretty guilty! :D

Hmm sounds interesting. Are you sure it's once every 4 hours though? I'm going to try it. See if it works.

Edison, I think. But I don't think his naps were exactly twenty minutes.

If this works I'd be interested......

I seriously doubt that would work. The average sleep cycle is 90 minutes, and its the number of cycles that count.

Dude, Kramer tried this, and it had disastrous results. He fell asleep on this chick, whose brother was involved with the mob, and then they threw him in the Ocean while he was still alive. Dude, if Kramer can teach us anything...............

:p

Leonardo da Vinci used this technique, but it was 15 minutes every 4 hours. I think you have to be the kind of person who can fall asleep immediately for it to work.

a good 30 mins should do then.

10 for falling asleep, 20 for the actual sleep. I think I'll try this during exams.

It may rest your brain, but what does it do for your muscles and other aspects of sleep, like recovery?

A person can function at about 20% better after having a 20-25min nap every 4 hours of work compare to one straight 8 hours. The napping addition to the nightly sleep of 6 hours or more have been proven to work for many cultures that have siesta.

this is something im gonna try out over christmas break. I will report back then.
