And the US flag does?

Not trying to defend the other, just asking.

It's totally different. The US flag can't be used as a bludgeon against the other team, so we'll ignore the fact the US flag has been used to spread death and destruction around the globe for the last 60 years.

That Lindsey Graham quote.

I googled that quote and it is splatted all across liberal blogs for the purpose of generating hate and fear. And here it is on this forum.

I've been seeing the the past week on facebook and elsewhere liberals scratching heads on why any _reasonable_ person would oppose marriage equality. The only answers they are capable of coming up with is that the other side must be hateful bigots.

I think OP only understands hate and out of the darkness he sees it staring back at him.

lol That's profound.

I would say though that personally while I can understand why people would oppose gay marriage, believing it is moral to use the armed might of government to deny it is another story.

Anyway, thanks to Exophase for doing our research and putting this thread to bed. Here's hoping that whether for hate or greed, those responsible for the fires that are arson* are caught and prosecuted and convicted and jailed.

* I specifically exclude those caused by lighting. (I got your back, Big Guy.)

Maybe because the follow up question asked conservatives how does two gay people getting married effect your marriage, there is no answer.

with apparent annual burnings of churches numbers posted above ^, The media needs to be far more responsible here and back the fuck off on reporting speculation before investigations are complete.

The more they...fuel the flames, this could lead to some unnecessary violence and rioting.

Agreed, as this one may be the result of a lightening strike. Old wiring doesn't do well when exposed to extremely high voltage. From the article on the Mt Zion church.

But a federal law enforcement source told The Associated Press that the blaze that destroyed the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal, near the rural town of Greeleyville, does not appear to be intentionally set by an arsonist.

HuffPo article says 4, Washington Post 5, which one says 6?

According to this resource:

http://www.nfpa.org/safety-information/for-consumers/occupancies/religious-and-funeral-properties

About 427 churches burned down per year from 2007 to 2011, or about 8 per week. The numbers may be on the high side for predominantly black churches, but I wouldn't be quick to assume all, most, or even any of them hate crimes motivated by the Dylan Roof shooting.

8 per week, but the OP will ignore this and continue to scream "hate crime" and "racism".

Time to do some number crunching to find out if this is an anomaly and investigate for arson.

This. Absolutely this.

Want to know why we are talking about it, because that's what the media wants. They called attention to something, hyped it up, and sensationalized it for effect. This thread is literally about drinking kool-aide.

Note that the 1,780 figure is the annual average, giving a weekly average of 34 fires in "religious and funeral properties." (Funeral properties are a tiny portion of this.) Note, however, that this rate of 34 per week is among all 50 states, and apparently includes minor fires as well as total structure fires. Given this, it's hard to tell how unusual it may be to have seven major black church fires in four states. The data isn't granular enough.

Here's the actual report: http://www.nfpa.org/~/media/files/research/nfpa-reports/occupancies/osreligious.pdf?as=1&iar=1&la=en

Reports are some are from lightning.

Reporting these fires while ignoring the rest of the year, or years prior to compare them to is silly. And stirring the pot.

*one* church was reported to have been struck by lightning.

No, 2 of the 7 may have been struck by lightning, one due to electrical wiring. I posted this earlier in the thread.

Two other churches caught fire last week as well — Fruitland Presbyterian Church in Gibson County, Tenn., and the Greater Miracle Temple Apostolic Holiness Church in Tallahassee. Authorities believe the fires were caused by lightning and electrical wires, respectively, though they are still investigating.

“We want to be sure, 100 percent sure, that this was an accidental fire, not on purpose,” Gibson County Fire Chief Bryan Cathey told WBBJ-TV.

And was it not violence when people protested and destroyed and burned their own town while doing so destroying local businesses in Fergusson whose owners had nothing to do with the crime? This country is going to be soon divided once again. I'm scared.

Your first article says one by lightning and the 2nd says nothing about lightning and your quote says one.

and now there is this:

Latest black church fire may not have been set by lightning, authorities say

"‘Bogus, bogus. We just don’t know yet,’ fire chief said to anonymous report that lightning caused fire in seventh black church since Charleston shooting"

...

"Police and firefighters are disputing an anonymous report claiming that the most recent of seven fires at predominantly black churches in the south was caused by lightning."

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...olina-black-church-fires-lightning-charleston

Nice try though.

I haven't really been following the church burnings except for whatever blerbs they utter on the news but last I heard, no one has been able to determine the cause of the fires.

When I first heard about this, I just assumed the churches had been firebombed. Hate groups aren't generally known for being subtle. Then I found out that it wasn't anything that overt and that no one knew what the cause was.

It does seem to stress credulity that this is just one big coincidence. But if it's not, that mean the hate warriors have stepped up their game a lot more than I ever would have even considered giving them credit for.

Aren't racist church burnings just typical Friday night entertainment in the South?
