Hi, is it safe to use a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter for a long period of time?
I have the Seasonic S12II 620W and it has a 6pin and a 6+2pin cables, could I use the adapter to power the MSI GTX770 Gaming which needs two 8pins?

Yes, I've been running mine hard since August (non-stop) & no issues.

8 pin connectors pull twice as many amps as a 6 pin connector does. That is 150W instead of 75W. If you convert a 6 pin on the PSU to an 8 pin on the GPU you still need to deliver it 150W on that connector, but now you are doing it with less wires. The question is really is that safe?

Well it depends. If the PSU is capable of doing it then its a combination of the internal design of the PSU and the quality and thickness of the wires they are using. If its a decent PSU then I suspect it can handle it just fine. If its a cheaper PSU without appropriate protection or minimal specification wiring then the wires or internals of the PSU could be getting fire hazard levels hot. Really depends on the PSU and what it can do.

I never understood why the 770 gaming had 2 8 pins but the 780 gaming and 780 ti gaming cards only use 8+6.

if you dont already have the card then I would go with a card with 8+6. I dont trust adapters like that myself.

780 Ti GHz here and it uses 2 x 8-pins. I second no adapters though.

I am talking about the MSI gaming cards. it makes no sense the 770 gaming needs 2x 8 pins but the 780/780 ti gaming only need 6+8.

The extra two pins on an 8 pin connector are just duplicated ground wires. The real question is if the 6-pin has heavy enough wire and if the PSU can provide enough power overall. I am suprised that you 620 W PSU would only have one 6-pin and one 8-pin. I would expect a 520 W PSU to have that arrangement.
