EDIT: I guess it's probably $30/month instead of $30 for 6 months. Sorry for the confusion.

I was at BB yesterday getting a new router and a salesman told me that they are offering 6 months of RR for only $30. I was shocked and I might actually jump on this deal since my DSL contract is over sometime this month (I think). I plan to head back and get more information later, but this seems like a really good deal.

I have had RR for over a year now and there is NO contract to sign. There might possibly be one with this deal but when the cable companies run the RR specials there is no contract. Just my 2 cents.

So yeah, here in Massachusetts, we only have AT&T and RCN cable for internet... does this apply to any of those?

I had Road Runner for quite a while until last week... I then switched over to Wide Open West (WOW)... I'm in Columbus, OH... I get the same level of service (in terms of internet speed) and a couple more channels (about 70 channels total) for a heck of a lot cheaper than what I was paying for Road Runner and Time Warner's cable service... I was paying $80 for both services before, I'm now paying $56 for both... I don't know how widespread WOW service is, but it may be worth checking out?

Its free install and cost $30 a month for 6 months not $30 for 6 months! Really not a hot deal, espcially if you have RR and are thinking of canceling and resigning thru BB! Your saving like $15 a month for 6. Also no contract to sign.

What is the speed of most broadband connections. I used to have road runner in columbus and it was great. I just started looking into wide open west that was mentioned earlier, and I noticed they have 3 levels of internet.

Value Basic Advanced
Upstream Cap ? 112kbps ? 300kbps ? 300kbps

Downstream Cap ? 112kbps ? 500kbps ? 1.5Meg

Speed vs. Dial-Up ? 2-3 x Faster ? 5-8 x Faster ? 25 x Faster

If I remember correctly my road runner ran at the 300/500 rate(correct me if I am wrong)would I actually get a noticeable differance with the 300/1.5 service?

Also slightly off topic(feel free to PM me rather then post in the thread to minimize the off topic part)but what is the advantage of digital cable over basic? Digital is not high definition right? So what is so good about it.

No additional cost it's $30 a month for 6 months after that it cost $45 a month if you don't have cable. This deal is't that great! The usually have the first 3 months free and pay the $45 a month afterwards. And always have free install as well! Call RoadRunner and tell them your buddy from here just got it for the first 3 months for free! : ) And if you tell them you friend let you know about Road Runner they will credit friend's account for a free month! If you can wait, wait! Roadrunner is always offering better deals.

Does anyone know who this is through, does best buy actually provide the road runner, or do they work with cable compaines and stuff. Also if I sign up for this then move in 2-3 months can I keep the service or do i have to pay again to hook it up and stuff.

No, BestBuy does not provide this service. It's provided by Aol Timewarner / Road Runner. Yes, if you do move from your location odd's are that your new place wont have a hook up for Road Runner and you will be forced to have it reinstalled! But the good news is that Roadrunner always installs for free! Least that's how it has been for me and several of my friends who currently have RoadRunner.

My Time/Warner cable company (central NY) has had this offer for some time: free installation, 1st month free, 2nd month $15, 3rd month $25, 4th month $35, $45 from then on. Works out the same as $30. per month but you don't get the BB gift card.

value and basic are pretty crappy...500kbps is only around 60KB/sec download speed, and 112kbps is only 14KB/sec!...1.5meg is around 180KB/sec..i would definitely go with the advanced if you download a lot like i do :)

You guys want it from the Horse's mouth?

I'm a web developer for Time Warner in CA (that's about all I'll tell ya). Here in S.Cal, it's 3 months for 29.99 a month, then 44.95 every month after that. No contract, ever. We don't deal with em cuz they cause too many problems. Shockazooloo is half on crack and half right on.

There has never been a deal where you get 3 months free. We've done 4th month free (after 3 months reg. price), and first month free. Free installation is almost a gimme. I've haven't seen an account in a very long time that had installation charged to it.

Refer a friend, however, is absolutely valid. If you know someone with Road Runner already, you can print a coupon to get your first month free AND get your friend a freebee month. Check your local Road Runner website for that. Trick is to get your buddy to read his bill to get the account number AND you have to provide the coupon at the time of install, no exceptoions.

Sorry jagilbertvt, you can't get in on this since you've already got the service. You should all know too, that if you cancel and sign right back up with this deal, you won't be getting old email addresses or usernames. On top of that, you will need to return your equipment before resigning up. And don't think they don't know people try this. If we see a pattern of cancelling and restarting within 30-60 days, we'll start charging for installation.

Coolred, if you move and are stll within a serviceable area (like if you live in San Diego, and move to a different place in San Diego that is within a Time Warner area) the transfer of service is free. Best Buy does not provide the connection, Time Warner (in this case anyway, we affiliate with the Road Runner company, hard to eplain) provides the equipment and connection. As for your off topic ?, digital blows the doors off basic cable, on-screen guides, tons more channels, better quality, video-on-demand. But I digress. But to answer the 2nd part, no, it is not Hi-def. Digital cable means that the signal is delivered with better bandwidth and compression for more channels. Interactivity is possible with digital too.

So buyer beware I guess. We gots a good product, I recommend it along with a lot of other stuff, that I won't try and sell you. Don't get me wrong, I like screwing the system every now and again (anyone remember the best buy deal for socal residents....yeah...that was suhweeeeet), but I thought I'd eliminate any frustration or confusion.

Late!

Ah yeah, think the sun has dried up your brain there or something going on in that head of yours that not clicking. First off you don't need your friends account number, all you need is there last name and addy. Secondly yes, they do from time to time offer the first 3 months for free. I've had RoadRunner since they first launched it and one of their promotions were the first 3 months free. I've hooked up several of my friends with it and I usually get a free month of RoadRunner. Were talking Wisconsin here, maybe different in the fruitville state, I mean the sunshine state : ) Thirdly you can cancel whenever you want and yes you do have to return your cable modem, but they will never charge for re installs. If they do tell them your going with AOL High Speed Broadband, they're stupid enough not to know that AOL TIMEWARNER merged and will give you a free install.
