I want to run 5 or 6 monitors off of one Windows XP system. This is a new Dell Optiplex system that came with a single card with a weird dual-monitor cable. I'd like to add 2 GeForce 6200 PCI dual-VGA cards to it and power 6 displays, but am not sure if Windows XP Pro is capable of this. Has anyone else tried this or seen it in action?

The alternative is to buy a Matrox card or a ATI 2600XT X2 with quad-DVI outputs, but 2X 6200's would be much cheaper. Gaming isn't an object here, these will be running PowerPoint presentations.

I used to run three monitors under XP Pro at work on a Dell. One was powered by the integrated Intel 915 IGP, one was an old Matrox 200 PCI card and the other an old Radeon 7000 PCI card.

You shouldn't have a problem doing even more monitors than that.

There is a hard limit to how many adapters you can have in XP, but you should be fine with 6 displays. IIRC, the limit is either 8 or 10.
