6 Bit vs 8 Bit LCD - really noticable in movies?

I'm looking at the Samsung 930B for $280 from Office Depot. The only thing that holds me back is that it's a 6 bit panel (like most 8ms panels I've seen.) Is the difference between 6 bit and 8 bit actually noticable? If so, what 8 bit panels would you guys recommend? I want one 19" or 20" with a DVI input. The 2001fp sounds awesome, but $464 (best price right now) is still a bit high for me.

The new panels from AU Optics should make it a 8ms 8bit panel

EDIT: dunno about response time actually

Try anandtech's review:

Sorry to be OT but how can you tell if the panel is made from AU Optics? I have 2 1905fp lcds and would love to know if they have samsung or AUO panels without having to open em.

BTW, DVD playback, imo, stinks on my LCDs, which is why I keep my 20" trinitron monitor around. :)

Nah, if I'm going to get a dell I want the 2001fp. I really don't need a monitor until the end of july or beginning of August...but I figure any new products that come out by then will be very expensive. The 930b is perfect for what I want except that it's 6 bit. Is that difference between 6 bit and 8 bit noticable?

Difference between 6 bit and 8 bit is more noticable on movies than games
I have not owned both of them, but I've been reading through anandtech reviews and they do seem to suggest it's noticable

However, if you have a 6-bit panel in the first place you wouldn't be able to complain since you have not got anything to compare. I wouldn't mind much

Could you elaborate on why DVD playback stinks on LCD panels?

Is it that the discrete pixels are noticeable as a screen door effect?

Mostly because of poor shadow and dark area reproduction (low contrast)
Poor angles of viewing
Insufficient response due to slow response time

Edit:
Oops, forgot to mention, inferior colour reproduction
Even 8-bit panels wouldn't be able to display true colour

LG 1980U? I don't know what bit depth the panel is, but my girlfriend's Mum bought one on my recommendation (the 15" model) and it's very very nice- bright, clear, sharp, and aesthetically pleasing.
