ok, it is not a lian-li but it gets the job down. saw this at techb@rgains... purchased one of these before and it works, so i am getting another one:

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GN200

price is $18.95. then get 10% using your mastercard and MC EXCLUSIVES (mods, i don't think this is a secret code--on compgeeks own website, they advertise it: http://www.compgeeks.com/mcard.asp). after 10% off, sales tax, and shipping ($7 for ground, very reasonable), it came to $25.XX. not too shabby...

Anyone sneaked a Duron or Anthlon Xp chip into this case? I know we are aren't "supposed to" but I was wondering ...

why aren't you supposed to? cuz of heat? if no overclocking is involved, then it shoudl be no problem. i have put a 1.2 duron and an XP 1700+ into cases like these (where the PSU is on the side of the mobo, instead of above, partially blocking the cpu) with stock HSF's, and they have had no problem

i think NICKel is referring to the power supply. it is only a 250W and probably not AMD approved. i have a spare 300W lying around and i am going to use that. if you are referring to heating and size, then this guy does work. i have a 1 GHz athlon in this case and it works just fine with DVD, CD-RW, zip, floppy, and two hard drives (100 GB western digital special editions). humming along just great!

If any of you would like an opinion from someone that has used 2 of these cases:

While the fit and finish of the case is acceptable, please remember that you get what you pay for. I purchased one of the cases for a LAN box to throw some extra components into and another just to have around. Modding the case was easy, but it really is nothing very special. If you want an $18 case, this is the one to get. I would, however, stay away from using anything that requires a decent amount of power, as the PSU was very small with a relatively low speed fan. It was also very lightweight, and the heatsinks inside are fairly skimpy.

BUT! It may be perfect if you aren't demanding a great deal from it, or especially for an older Celeron/PII/PIII box.

JMHO.

I've had no problems running those cheap geeks cases with power hungry systems like:
1. Abit KT7A, Duron 750@1GHz, WD 20gig, CDRW, GF2 GTS, SB Live. (Just sold after 6 months of great service).
2. Epox 8kta3Pro, T-Bird 1GHz@1.33Ghz, WD 20gig, GF2 GTS, CDRW, DVD. (Wife's machine, so it MUST not crash).
Added a blow hole in the top and one of those $2.50 Panaflo L1A's 80mm from B.G.Micro.

Most of the time, it's installer error that causes problems, not cheap PS.
The first thing everyone blames when you have errors, is the cheap power supply.
So when I had errors, I upgraded the Geeks case to an AMD approved 400w.
Of course that didn't fix the errors, and after RMA'ing the Abit MB, problem solved, so went back to 250w supply.

NOTE: Geeks might have changed power supply brands since I bought my cases, which was about 2 years ago.

think this would work with an 1 Gig Duron and ECS K7S5A mobo?

I just jumped on the other hot deal (1 gig duron + ECS mobo ) at outpost.

Just wondering if this case and PSU would handle it okay cuz I know the ECS boards can be picky with power supplys

thanks

I'm also curious if the ECS K7S5A with a Duron/Athlon chip will fit in this case. Anyone put this MB in this case yet?? Does the side-mounted PS obstruct the CPU??

Compgeeks also makes the recomendation to replace the PS if you're going to use this with a P4/XP processor.

BTW, I was going to get this for my new K7S5A/Duron 1.1GHz but since I didn't know if the PS would get in the way I opted for this one instead. It's a "cheap" case but has a P4 ready/AMD approved 300 watt power supply. $24 + $14.45 shipping = $38.45 total. I've had it for two weeks now, it was easy to set up, not screwless but that's no biggie for me. No complaints so far. It doesn't come with a case fan so I installed one I had laying around. Just looked at newegg, they have this case for $35 plus $15 shipping, so the AccessMicro deal isn't bad at all. Search for CODEGEN 6016L at newegg to find it. Nice pics.

I have a case very simliar to this, I have had it for 2+ years and running my BX6 Rev2 in it. As you know yhe MB is a slot 1 and the PSU is in a very bad spot. The PSU almost rests on the s370 converter I use, but other than that its a good case, very sturdy, not just flimsy metal like some cheap cases, that if you were to put something heavy on it the whole thing would collapse
