6.68mm thin enough for you?

Huawei has been up to some impressive stuff lately, so we're not totally shocked to see this top-spec phone reveal itself at CES. Perhaps the Ascend P1 S's most surprising attribute is its thickness -- a mere 6.68mm (0.26-inches), which would let it glide past the 7.1mm Droid RAZR with barely a slice in the air. The screen is 4.3-inches along the diagonal, qHD 540 x 960, and -- to HTC's shame -- it claims to be Super AMOLED. There's a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 inside, clocked at 1.5GHz and accompanied by a SGX 540 GPU,

Pretty sure there's some here who wanted an uber thin phone, with almost no camera bump. After playing with the Razr though, this is too thin. The 7.1mm Razr wasn't comfortable to hold for me.

I agree there is a point where it is too thin, TBH the G Nex with the extended battery is about as thin as i would want a phone

My only concern would be the battery life, but the specs are solid and so is the design.

Thin phones are nice for those like me who like to use cases. Now a phone + case is a nice comfortable size compared to old thicker phones. Without cases I agree that they're starting to get TOO thin to handle properly.

I would love to see a hand held media player that's as thin as a credit card. I will consider having two devices when I can easily fit one of them in my wallet. 😉

Oh no, it's got TWO humps!
/sarcasm

Impressive, if it has ICS and LTE, and happens to hit Verizon, I'd consider it for the right price. It's a shame the screen isn't higher res though.

Is it 6.68mm thin at its thickest point or are they not counting the slight humps? I'm not entirely certain as there are other phones that have used the thinnest part as the measure when that's a bit disingenuous. The link isn't explicitly clear so I was wondering if anyone knows for sure one way or the other.
I would guess it was taken from the thinnest part.

Well it's really only as thin as it's thickest part. Just because part of a vehicle is only two feet off the ground doesn't it can go through an 8" underpass if part of it sticks up beyond that part.

Why is it always a car analogy...

While I agree with you somewhat, having used phones like the Droid X and RAZR, the mostly thin body is very noticeable.

I think they do it just for bragging rights (or the camera).

To me thats a beautiful looking phone.
If a Chinese brand can do this, why do HTC keep making bland looking phones ??

It is a good looking phone but I'd never buy one due to the possibility of the Chinese Military or Intelligence getting access to it. I have next to no trust in Huawei's independence of those organisations.

I'd also more than likely break it with my big hands. There's thing & there's too thin. I think 8mm is about as thin as I'm willing to go for the safety of the handset.

Oh, fine, we'll do something else. 😛

It would be like measuring the height of a person at the top of their shoulders because the head is just a minor bump. Not quite as good as the car analogy, but I think it adequately illustrates the silliness of measuring dimensions from some arbitrary point other than the maximum thickness. They may as well make one of the edges tapered use the edge as the measure.

LOL seriously ??
You actually think you can break the phone from just regular usage ???
The ipod touch is almost as thin at 7.2mm and do you ever hear of anyone breaking it with their hands from regular usage ??

Really?(sarcasm) There's an extremely slight bump around the camera and a slightly larger bump on the bottom chip. Averaged out, this is thinner than the Razr and SGS2, the current thinnest phones available.

I stand by my original statement though. Its too thin for comfortable use, though you could slap a case on it. Guessing the battery is not user replaceable either.

my daughters itouch screen cracked when her friend put it in her jeans pocket. my son had his in the same pocket as a pencil and it fractured the screen on one side. neither were shatters or even really bad for seeing the screen, but cracks they were, and from very little pressure on them at all. thats the only thing that worries me about phones getting thinner, really.

I don't see phones getting that thin. The iPod Touch is incredibly thin as well, and holding it like a phone is not very comfortable. Feels like you're gonna drop the thing at any second.

It's great for media players though.

It's more a case of grip than strength, many broken fingers in my youth makes it more difficult to grasp thin objects in the palm.
