6.4 Catalyst x1800gto /sapphire issues

Hi,

After installing my new x1800 GTO, I get weird install errors with 6.4, CCC will not install at all. I ran drive cleaner (also in safe mode) and tried to install 6.4 over my sapphire branded catalyst CD drivers which came with the card (6.3 I think).

I could not load 6.4 directly on a new system build (below) , it was XP home SP2. I can't seem to uninstall the old drivers (which works) to install the new ones and can't install the new ones over the old ones.

Anyone see this before?

You have to uninstall them via the ATI uninstaller before you driver clean the stuff.

Follow the ATI driver instructions. Afterwards, try the 6.5 Catalysts if you can, there's also the 6.6s, but they seem to give me NSIS errors, so I don't know about the 6.6s.

Also, get the newest drivers -- 6.6. Go to ATI.com drivers section

And make sure you have .net 2.0 installed

Thanks- I will see about which version of .net I have. Sorry I should clarify- I used the uninstaller and removed the old drivers- no problem, but when I do so I cannot install the 6.4 drivers- XP reports no driver, and catalyst fails to install (ther eis no "basic VGA driver" loaded- the 6.3 sapphire branded drivers install from cd just fine.

I was thinking if I could find the .inf driver I could just update from 6.3 sapphire to the 6.4 or 6.5 inf. driver???, or remove all catalyst drivers and do a windows driver update on the unknown driver to 6.3, if I can identify which .inf file is correct, then try to install 6.5 over the top of that?. The problem here looks to be how XP handles the x1800 GTO "natively".
