iPhone 4 is nice with too many issues. I am holding it back for 5th gen with a better antenna and bigger screen. I am hoping iOS 5.0 will have aiminated wallpaper like android and better true multitasking also better push notification for email that will let email check for new messages every 5 min instead of 15 min. What about you people? Do you understand my English?

Your english is quite good, but you are in for at least a 9-10 month wait before you even see the new iOS, much less the new phone.

*I don't see true mulititasking ever happening, maybe more "background services" that can be programmed, but thats it.

*Unless we get some new battery technology.

The antenna is fine for me after 4+ days...and the screen is fine too, a compromise between sheer size and portability. Besides, with the bumper on, it is a non-issue. Animated wallpaper is also a non-issue for many as the screen is full of icons, and who stares at the wallpaper anyway, unless you've eaten a bag of psilocybin mushrooms?

And if you disable fetch and enable push, messages will be sent to the phone as they are received, right? Or am I mistaken? In any event, every gadget has an issue or three. Don't let them detract from the many things that the 4th gen iPhone does so well.

What are you using for a phone now?

The notification system in iOS needs overhauled. Bad. I also think they need to start allowing some form of widgets, however that would detract from their design paradigm where every app is on the "Desktop".

A lot of what you see from Apple is an effort to ensure a good user experience no matter what. Android offerings take the stance that you can do things to detract from the experience (slow downs, shorter battery life, etc) if you choose.

I only mention Android for frame of reference for design paradigm. When you think "will Apple add 'x' to the next iPhone", you have to think about the negative consequences of having 'x'. If public outcry is enough they may find some sort of compromise like they did with multitasking.

Also I wouldn't count on a bigger device footprint, so if you want a bigger screen they're probably only going to play around with the current space on the front of the device.

the notification system in iOS 5 will likely be overhauled.. Apple took the guy who did it for WebOS, no doubt he'll try to do something.

Screen size I hope stays the same. the iPhone is already the limit of what I'd want in a phone. The Pre is actually perfect for me, but you can't get that small when you need an onscreen keyboard.

and what's wrong w/ iOS's email push notification? Serious question, I don't have an iPhone. Do you mean intervals of checking only goes as low as 15 minutes? That's not push notification...

15 minutes is the smallest interval of checking for fetch. Push has to be disabled for fetch to work. Fetch can also be set to manual.

I feel really sorry for folks who need to check their email every 5 minutes vs every 15 minutes. I seriously doubt your life is so intense that its actually necessary.
For reference, Android 1.6 did most of the things your iPhone wouldnt.

wow you cant see much past your own little world, can you? mine is set to manual most of the time, but if im in the middle of negotiating for parts or something, ill set it to check every 5 min so i dont spend too much time trying to get the project finished. its not that my life is complicated or intense, or even important. not being able to see any other choice but your little closed world makes me feel really sorry for you.

Push should send it whenever, assuming that you have gmail or an exchange server. Unless I am mistaken, Push is not something available for all email.

iOS5 will have a new notifications system, but a new multitasking system is less certain (and less necessary). I'd expect more changes in hardware than software, and iPhone 5 should have a dual-core processor, 32/64gigs of storage, possibly a 4G data connection, and possibly a larger battery. Without 4G it would be a very insignificant 3G->3GS upgrade.

i agree completely, if you're not using this is a business phone. i like getting my e-mails in a timely manner - and yes, some of my e-mails are important enough that i would respond ASAP and would like to receive ASAP, not 4 times an hour.

Sadly, most of the current Android phones already do things that iOS5 won't do or will introduce as 'revolutionary' new features that are 'must haves'. People will buy it in droves.

Marketing, Marketing, Marketing. The Droid and other Verizon Android phones have sold pretty well because VZ is actualy MARKETING them. The Nexus One, the Evo, the other good Android phones that have all the features under the sun and are the best thing since sliced bread don't touch the iPhone's numbers because outside of tech blogs and whatnot, they haven't been advertised for beans.

Besides, there is a fundamental appeal to iOS that Android cannot offer such as easy syncing with OS X, better (IMO) appearance, wider app store with better curation and wider accessory options. And, if someone got the first or second one, and are upgrading, they probably have a fair amount of money invested in the app store.

So, marketing and 'loyalty' are the reasons.

How many times through history has the 'superior' technology lost out because the other option was better marketed (and often cheaper).

The N1 didn't get much, if any advertising, no argument there. But I thought Sprint was pushing the Evo 4G pretty hard, being their first and currently only 4G enabled phone?

Although, personally, after looking at their 4G coverage map, I'd be investing more resources into building that up before actually launching any serious 4G phone.

I support Blackberries at work and we have a lot of sales people like that - they are doing email about every 30 seconds, so rapid-fire checking is absolutely necessary. I don't like Blackberries much, but they are useful for high-communication business people.

Apple is poised on the edge of taking over the business market. I don't know why they don't just go for it. I'd LOVE to drop in iPhones at work and kick BES & all the Crackberries to the curb. But a few tiny things like that are lacking, and those are a very big deal!

Push email has been in iOS for a long time. Why are we talking about it?

Also, multitasking is already here and I'm sure it'll be built up even more going forward.

I look through setting for mail > fetch new data Push is on for all email accounts but in advanced setting for each account, there is only fetch or manual for Gmail no push.....

You will want to go to gmail's website and then to HELP and follow their instructions. You actually need to set it up as an exchange account.

Excellent use of the straw man tactics, sir.
I salute you.
