Hi there...

Believe it or not I am an overclocker of K6-x processors.

I am currently running a K6-2+ 450MHz @ 616MHz (5.5 x 112)
I am doing this on a Soyo 5ema mobo. (1 MB Cache Version)

I also have a K6-2 500 MHz.

The big deal of course with the + is the .18 micron manufacturing process and the 128 KB L2 cache.

Before I got the + the highest that I was able to run my 500 at was 560 (5 x 112). Because of the L2 cache that is located on the mobo of all socket 7 boards, your max FSB is limited by the quality of the cache chips. Unfortunately a good degree of quality is pretty scarse.

The only solution available, is to disable the mobo cache. The only problem with doing this is that it severely kills the performance of a non + K6-x processor.

In all of my tweaking, I could quite easily get my + to run at 620Mhz (5 x 124).
124 for the FSB is usually the highest that you will probably find for settings on a ss7 board.

If that board is based on the MVP3 from VIA, I suggest that you set yourself up for 560 (5 x 112) and go to www.viahardware.com and download the 4 way memory interleave hack/patch that they have there. I have it and it will help a K6-x platform quite a bit. I am running it on W2K and 98 and have no problems.

Thanks.
