5MP digi cam - Looking for a good one

A friend of mine is looking for a digital camera for a class and she said she needs a 5mp. So I was wondering what suggestions had. Thinking about the Olympus C-5000Z but looking for other suggestions. Thanks.

I have a Canon S50 and like it. It has a lot of features, but doesn't have the 10x optical zoom everyone seems to want on a 5MP camera these days.

What budget? If you need cheap, Kodak has a 5mp for under $340. I think its the dx4530. I think walmart even sells it for $298.

why exactly does she need a 5mp camera????

id recomend a Olympus C-750UZ its 4.1MP and has a 10x optical zoom. and its an extreamly nice camera and IMO having a zoom is sooooooooo much better then haveing 1 more MP

The HP 945 isn't even listed in most lists yet... so far good things on DPReview and has greater zoom than most of the 5MPcameras listed.

However, I'd prolly go with a Sony DSC-V1 over a Canon G5... also a newer camera that isn't listed, too bad it uses friggin Memory Sticks.

What is her budget, and does she absolutely have to have a 5mp camera? The tiny lens on Point and Shoot cameras aren't very good for anyting over 4MP. For example, the pictures you take w/a Canon s45 (4MP) are nearly identical to those taken w/a Canon S50 (5MP). The small lens handicaps a 5MP chip the same way a two year old computer would handicap the latest video card. Now if she starts looking at prosumer style cameras (usually w/a normal sized, but not removable lens) then the 5MP will actually make a difference.

hahaha, thats about what i said to her. I got to pick my fights with this girl, its not my money so i dont care
