5d Mark 2 + 24-70 f/2.8L >:-(

Wow, I cannot trust this camera to focus for $#@&!!! Out of 100 pictures 3 of them are in focus! I'm using spot focusing and WTF. Can't rely on this camera for jobs! Back to my XTi!

If your subject is moving then your shot will be out of focus if you're using One shot AF probably use AI servo AF or AI Focus AF.

center pt + one shot is very good

i used servo for football today and forgot to switch back on both cameras doing clubbing. THe 7D was perfect, but the T1i basically fell apart. Misfocused 3-4 photos before I was like "wait a second...." Fixed both up, but if I kept shooting with the 7D, somehow I think it would've done just fine. But yes, AI Servo takes like 1/3 the data it does for "One Shot" to determine focus, so it'll be a lot quicker guestimation. Lots more room for error.

I would say that less than 5% of my shots with my 5D classic and 24-70 are out of focus due to gear limitations. You're doing something wrong or your equipment needs service.

You're doing something wrong or you need to take advantage of the microfocus features of that camera. I never had any issues focusing with the 5DMKII + F2.8 24-70L lens. Though I did not need to do any microfocus adjustments either.

yeah... these are standard "posed" shots, in challenging light conditions. Yes, I'm on single point AF, and I know f/2.8 can be challenging on hitting the focus right on, but 5.6 shouldn't have an issue.

I'm noticing it's front focusing A LOT. I took the lens in for service once before, maybe now I need to take both in. I've been using this camera since January of 2009. I could tell the focus started to fall about 6 months using the camera. Funny, I never had this problem when I was on Nikon (not to be a nikon troll). But prior to this, I was on a D300. Prior to that, Panasonic DMC-L1. Prior to that, XTi. not one camera I've had before had this much trouble focusing!

It's probably not a camera issue unless ALL of your lenses are front focusing. If it's just the 24-70, then it's a lens issue. And the 24-70 does have a reputation for AF problems, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was it.

Try dialing in some microadjust on your 5D Mk 2 and see if that makes the front focusing go away.

i did dial in the micro adjustment for the 24-70, but I guess it looses it. So meaning, it'll work some days, but not others. I do, however, have the 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 and that seems to nail my focus every time to see it's the lens!

broken link! But I'm sure it's grand... stupid 24-70 f/2.8.... the 1% of the time when it nails focus, it's incredible. But for 99%, it's OOF. But one thing I DID notice is on the 28-70 f/3.5-4.5, the bokeh is much softer... almost more "pleasing" to me...

Try using contrast-detect AF in LiveView Mode to see how it turns out.
