RESULTS and INFO pages:
http://173.2.167.31:8880/ATCommunity/index.htm

Hey guys/gals.

I'd like to get a few people together that have:

1. A bit of spare time
2. 5970 (soxfan)
3. 5870 Xfire (lavaheadache)
4. GTX460 SLI (Annisman*)
5. Similar platforms (CPU speed, RAM, OS)
6. As many game titles in common as possible.

For anyone who participates, I'll build a results web page.
Should be interesting, and fun.

Other contributors:
GTX480 SLI (elganga)
GTX465 SLI (oLd.Sneakers)
HD5850 (Dug777)

So, if you have the hardware, spare time, and interest, please step up!

Thanks in advance!!

Keys

P.S. Would appreciate zero trolling/crapping/flaming in here. Those who would need not bother posting.
Thanks again. Lets keep this clean and shiny.

Reserved

Games list: ??
BC2
Metro 2033
Just Cause 2
Dirt 2
Mafia demo
AvP
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Farcry 2
GTA4
GRID
L4D2

This can get extensive as you guys want it to be, or have enough energy for. :)
Some of this can get tedious, but don't kill yourselves. Take your time, give results when you have them.

Metro2033:

Opening action where you follow your friend up a ladder(start fraps), move through some passageways and collect ammo, through the area where you need to put on a gas mask (press G for that), fight 3 or 4 creatures, you both bust open a gate and go outside, follow your friend until a brief cut scene occurs. There is a stampede of creatures and soon they will begin to attack. Fight off creatures until you are knocked down. Another cut scene occurs and a flying creature topples an armored vehicle and carries a guy off. Then another flying creature flies at you. End fraps right there.
Use your highest playable settings. Start off with everything maxxed. Full AA, DX11 features, Tesselation, Depth of Field.
In fraps, remember to select "Framerates" and "Min/Max/Avg" under the FPS tab. This will create 2 .csv file we can use to create line and bar graphs. You can send them to my email address.

If you need a 480SLI (well EVGA 480SLI FTW Hydrocoppers, but I can downclock to stock 480GTX speeds) let me know

You know, it would be great to add as many benchmarks as possible from a wide range of hardware. If you want to get numbers in, I'll be happy to add them into the results page. Thank you! :D

Did you want to establish settings/resolutions? 2560x1600 (I normally play on a 30inch monitor)? 1920x1200? 4XAA 16xAF? Just seems like there would be tons of variables. Or do you just want whatever you can get?

I'm pretty up to date on most games (if they are on steam)... so I have BC2, Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, Dirt 2, Mafia demo, AvP, Batman: Arkham Asylum... older games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Farcry 2, GTA4, GRID, L4D2. Can also do 3dMarks Vantage in any mode (I bought the pro? edition)

Maybe the methodolgy of benchmarking (in game tools, or other)?

My CPU is pretty standard, an i7-930 @ 4Ghz w/ RAM at 1600Mhz.

I can bench for both Stock 480SLI speeds and Stock FTW 480SLI speeds. Once some of initial questions are answered, I can get started. Will probably take me a couple of days

I think we should get all participants together first, then establish the modus operandi. Then everybody would be on the same page and know what they need to accomplish.

As far as resolutions go: 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 2560x1600 (this one will be rare).
Great collection of games you have there. Perfect!

Are you happy/able to open those 5870s up a bit in the process?

Hopefully you should be good for 950 apiece without anything scary on the voltage front...

The only difficulty I might have is spare time. But if you don't mind if I am a bit "flexible" with the timing of reporting my data, I have the following setup:

Core i7 860 @ ~3.6 Ghz
6GB ram
Sapphire Radeon HD5970 2GB (@ stock, but I'd be willing to OC a bit)
Win7 64 bit
NEC 20WGMX2 (limited to 1680x1050, unfortunately)

More games than I care to report. It would be reasonable to assume that I have many or most of the major titles, including all of the common benchmark titles (Batman, BC2, Crysis/Warhead,, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, MW2, Bioshock 2, etc.).

I was going to go SLI 460's but my car just cost me $1200 yesterday so i will be stuck with one card for a few months now. It does OC to 900/1000 though, have not tried to push it farther but am going to over the next week try and get it up to 1Ghz. If you need single card Stock 460 Results or OC results to whatever level let me know. Also willing to clock the 930 to whatever up to its 4Ghz. I have crysis, and crysis warhead. Far cry 2, Mass effect 2. Fallout 3. L4D2. Would prefer to be at 1080P res but will run in whatever you decide on.

Is there really a need for such testing?
I can tell you the results already.
NVDA will win all the tests and come out as the premiere card to buy.

@Soxfan: No problem at all. As the data comes in, it gets updated. The more participants we get, the better. Thanks!

Did you ever experience orgasm? We all know what the end result is going to be, its just the pleasure of doing it that's important. Benchmarking is the same.

Been looking around for benchmarks and reviews myself regarding 465 GTXs on a 775 Q9X50 system and havn't found anything so far.

But I ordered/bought 2x 465 GTXs today that where 2ndhand but only a few weeks old and only ran a cupple of times ( bargain aswell only 460 dollars for both ).

What would be special in my case is that both these cards OC to 910 respectivly 930..wich was amazing since everyone been bashing the 465 GTXs to not OC as high as 460s.

So in short I would contribute with:

2x SLI'd 465 GTXs clocked near 900 on both cores ( I will prolly have to lower a bit due to them beeing SLI'd and temps getting very high )

- Q9450 @ 3.8 ghz
- 1920x1200 and below resolutions
- 4 GB ram @ 920 6-6-6-24-2t
- 10k rpm raptor hdd

This setup should crush the 460s or atleast thats my hidden agenda apart from just trying to fill the information gap that seem to exist regarding the none 1336 socket. ( Tired of all the OCed 980x i7 and 975s when us mortals still are stuck on our ol' 775 quads :) )

/edit

I could bench these games:

Farcry2
BC2
SC2
Fallout 3
Anno 1404
Batman AA
Mirrors Edge
Crysis
Warhead
Borderlands
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2

You would have to work out the benching procedure though since most of these lack a fixed benchmark. Could obviously get my hands on more games if need be. *wink wink*

Will be a cupple of days though since I need to recieve the cards formate and put them in.

Jum, that would explain why there's so many people wanting to do some benchmarking. :D

Nice! I would love to see some good old core 2 quad scores.
These I'm perticulary interested in, :) considering my system specs.

Given the fact that Keys is looking to compare 5970, 5870 Crossfire, and GTX 460 SLI I don't think the performance results will be a foregone conclusion. Granted no matter who wins the top performance award, I'm guessing that the GTX 460 SLI setup will win price/performance. Maybe a more value oriented AMD Crossfire config should be added. I'd imagine that the lower the price of the cards, the more potential participants there will be.

I don't find tests conducted by NVidia focus group members useful...hence my comment.
Perhaps we could ask an ATi rep to do the same and see how closely the results correlate.
Keys can post all his results first(yes Keys, first) followed by the results conducted via an "alternative view".
I'm sure the results would be interesting as focus group members are well known for presenting "just the facts Mam".....aren't they?
