"A little over a month ago however, NVIDIA defied this traditional formula with the stealth launch of its GeForce FX 5900 XT graphics core. ?GeForce FX 5900 XT? you say? I?ve never heard of that! That?s because NVIDIA never officially announced its arrival, but if you?ve been following Price Watch recently, you?ve probably noticed the recent addition of several $200 GeForce FX 5900 128MB listings. These are all video cards powered by GeForce FX 5900 XT graphics technology."

It looks like it whoops the 9600XT and 5700U hands down and is close to the 5900/9800pro range. Overclocked it seems to give the 9800s a run for their money.

I know the 9800 Pro for $212 is the latest hot deal, but the XFX 5900XT for $159 at newegg is very tempting. Any thoughts other than typical NVidia/ATI Holy war stuff? (I buy whatever is best for the money).

My personal thing is to just buy the most you can afford. If you can afford a 9800pro, get that. If the $160 is more your budget get that. I would have bought a 9800xt if I hadn't gotten a 9800 AIW right before they came out. I know you pay a premium for diminishing returns, but I personally don't care.

I don't like to buy beyond what I will use. I'm still using a Ti4400 and have no reason to upgrade, I was just making an observation. I don't play many PC games and when I do, they are at 1024x768 with no AA/AF. I'm not into bragging rights, I can afford anything, but it's not good economics to waste money of stuff that you only tap 50% of.

Well, I generally run stuff with details maxed and AA/AF if available. So having a faster card helps. Its not about bragging rights, I just like to not worry about my card holding me back. I have no problem using my 9800pro to its capacity as it is. There are some games I have to turn details down on even with it and the rest of my system being pretty decent.

Well, I would have said the 9800 pro is a better bang for the buck, since most 5900xt's were running about $185, but this looks to be a very good deal.

I jumped on this last night....not sure why as I have never spent "real' money on video cards. We'll see how it lives up. My last video card, TI4200, was a Newegg refurb and it seems to have memory problems (severe artifacts, blinking pixels, etc) that have developed after only a few months use. As I said, we'll see! :)

Yup, that's a nice price, but XFX doesn't seem to have the best reputation AFAIK. Still, the price difference between this and the MSI 5900XT may just make up for the MSI's nicer HSF and features.

MSI seems to have quiet fans. considering the 5900XT's cooler is already small, the MSI should prove to produce less noise than the others.

Sounds like the Newegg refurb ti-4200's have a high failure rate! My first one was DOA, and the second one went bad after a couple months.

That's one reason I chose this NEW 5900XT card. Hopefully, it will be OK. Did not like the comments by the latest reveiw on Newegg, but any card can be a flake. Crosses fingers! :)

The EVGA 5900SE costs more, but seems to perform better. I think I'd go with that one. Every once in a while Newegg has it on sale for about $180.

no I just bought this card and find the performance not very good, I've tried it on alot of recent games with aa and af , I thought this card will compete with 9700non pro , but it doesn't even come close and the fan noise my 5900xt produce is unnaceptable compared to my old 9500 pro.
my new 5900xt is on par with my old 9500 pro winning in some games and loosing in others with aa and af, except for image quality , ati has better crisper and clearer 2d , but 3d it's not that much noticeable ,

take a look at this benchmark even though they are bias and are friendly with nvidia they used mostly selected games that were geared for nvidia, but atleast they used nvidia's official non cheat drivers with aa and af:

Didn't you post something similar in another thread?

If you don't like your video card then just go and buy something else! :disgust:

Ya, mikevine69 is ignoring all reviews with benchmarks showing very good scores. I tend to believe the pros and not some shmuck who bashes a card and never says his system specs nor what card he bought. Sounds like fanboy stuff.

Not that I'm buying anything, it's just sounds fishy.
