5900XT Runs FarCry on VERY HIGH!!!

I have no problem running FarCry at any resolution with the highest details, with absolutely no skipping or lag. Your card is not all that. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I have a 9700pro, running at 1024 with 16x quality AF (through properties), no AA with everything maxed out in game settings (AF set to 2X, no AA). The game is totally playable, but I'm guessing on average it is getting 20-30 fps. Lows maybe 5-10fps, and highs maybe 35-45 fps.
It is certainly playable and I am loving it. BUT there is no way this card is gonna beat anything a generation or two ahead of it.
Anyway OP, my point is, that you may be getting less fps than you think you are, in part because you find it playable.

hey buddy get a better video card hahahahahha

Sheesh "mynewrigissick" you shouldn't flame people for their choice of video card in general, but you especially shouldn't do it when your own card isn't exactly cutting edge.

There are games my four year old's 5800U runs faster than your 5900XT, would you like it if he came on here and posted:

nfwehfuiE FIHJRNFUINU oejskfihuy fgmgurhbyf54dre! Kmn ciu3hn dsnfuwHF!

(translation: "Meh. My 5800U is faster at many games and settings than your 5900XT, due to it's much higher fillrate. Want benches?")

😉

Well, I actually looked at some benchmarks, and you're right, that card is pretty decent, if the 5800u were 256 bit that thing would SCREAM 🙂

Yeppers. When you start with a 500MHz core and 1GHz memory, things are on the right path. The 128 bit memory was the Achilles heel of the 5800U, but if you run it at settings that don't exceed the memory bandwidth (i.e. lower AA/AF) it was the stuff. (or if you're my four year old- is the stuff 😉 )

thanks sneakystuff

Errr, I think Sneakystuff is agreeing with me, not you, mynewrig?

Anyway, here's what I mean about my 4 year old's 5800U Big Chief:

D'oh! UT2003 5800 PWNS 5900XT

10X7, 4X8X
5900XT= 47.6fps 5800U=54.4fps

D'oh! D'oh! 5800U pwns at Nascar Thunder too!

10X7, 4X8X
5900XT=32.4fps 5800U=37.3fps

D'oh! D'oh! D'oh!!! Not Call of Duty too!

10X7, 4X8X
5900XT=39.7fps 5800U=45.2fps

See what I mean? Even the previous gen 5800U beats the 5900XT. Would you like my four year old posting to you "Get a better video card"?

I ordered a 5700xt refurb from newegg and it shows up as a 5950U should I send it back? seetings are indeed 475 950, but has 128M ram?

why on earth would you send it back? 😕

its funny how my 5900XT runs FarCry on high and most high end video cards
Except it doesn't. It runs a reduced precision path which lacks IQ and also currently it has colour banding problems. And even then it's still a lot slower than a 9700 Pro, a card which can barely run Far Cry at acceptable levels.

Acceptable is subjective. You may not agree that 10x7 is an acceptable resolution, but I'm sure you can agree that running the game at 50-60fps with no dips below 40 with AA and AF on is plenty acceptable, no?

There are no 128MB 5950Us, why would you think newegg sent you a 5950? Post a picture of it. 5950s have pretty distinctive HSFs, and 256MB of RAM.

hey that only 3fps and that is only in unreal tournament 2004

LOL- this nut keeps PMing that I am "jealous" of his 5900XT, when I have a better card (6800NU), my four year old has a better card upstairs (5800U), and I could buy a 5900XT 10 miles down the road without thinking twice about it.

Rollo, you've hit the issue on the head. Mat/myrig is a very sick or very very juvenile person. I keep flashing to my 8 year old nephew.... he acts this way too, but his parents aren't stupid enough to let him on the internet where he can display his..... intelligence... to everyone.

wow, you should really do your homework before you make stupid statments like this

do you realize a 9800 pro can also OC? most reach XT levels without a hitch

For the cost of a better heatsink and a 5xxx card, the 9800 Pro would be cheaper and still destroy your card.

It's really baffling how the FX series sold at all, given its utterly abysmal performance for the majority of its time. In the last few months it's made gains, but not enough, and with the release of the new generation it hardly matters now anyway.

Buy an x800 XT, then brag about your card.
