5900SE worth dumping for Sapphire 9800PRO (OEM)?

All Nvidia vs. Ati arguments aside, will I see much noticeable difference between these 2 cards? From what I remember of the benchmarks it might be a difference of say 10% on average?

I have the eVGA 5900SE currently. I would have bought a 9800 to begin with but they were 100-150 more at the time. Is it worth purchasing the 9800 pro now? Newegg has what looks to be a spectacular deal on them, putting it right in direct competition with the price range the 5900se is/was in when I bought it.

My 5900SE will not go to waste if I buy the 9800 Pro. I have a 2nd gaming rig currently using a G4-TI-4200 that could use it.

Should I update? Should I wait for the next generation cards to come out? (assuming the price has dropped so much because they are trying to dump them before next generation stuff comes out).

Here's the link, please let me know what you think? The only weird thing is the clock/mem is 380/680.. I thought ATIs/better cards usually had 400/800.

Thank you for any quick answers - sale on this card ends TODAY at 4pm PST, so I want to decide fast.

just wait you can use ur current card in every game with most details turned on.... be patient and endure ;D

The clock on that card is right. It's a standard Pro.

Seems like a waste to upgrade but everyone is different.

My vote is that you should wait. There would probably be a little difference depending on what games you play, but not nearly enough to justify an upgrade IMO ---not unless u just have money to blow.

yea, the 9800pro won't be much more than 10% or so slower than your SE......

ok, just kidding 🙂

at stock speeds? yea, tho there are a couple of titles nvidia seems to have problems with where the margin would be greater.. namely traod (does anyone actually play this?) and mafia. other than that, they are pretty much similar in performance. it does run the farcry demo a bit faster at higher res, however most people what have a 5900 series card seem to state it runs well.

things change a bit to nv's favor if you overclock both cards and compare them, but the 9800pro is still has an edge overall imo.

well.. the first question to ask is.. are you unhappy with something about your 5900SE, and if so, what?

again, why are you asking? is there some area you feel the 5900 is underperforming or has shortcomings of some sort?

380/680 is default clock for the 9800pro.

i think that unless there is a specific reason you need a card right NOW, i would hold off and wait to see what happens in the next 60-90 days.

Yea i would wait. Only upgrade i would consider from the 5900se is a 9800p 256 meg ram. 300 bucks at newegg. I dont see the 128ram 9800 as a practical upgrade at all considering what you have. Now 256 ram is another story.

Wait it out. 5900se is a powerful card. After some newer games come out, we will hear from more reviews on what will work best.
