ok, my chip hit 58 today. I had just removed a load of the thermal grease cause it was really gooped on the first time. I don't remember the temp before but 58 seems a little high. My case temp is 30c and when i touch the heatsink it feels pretty warm but not really hot. Is this setup ok or am i going to mess my chip? Everything is at the standard clock, i can't afford new stuff.

Sounds hot to me. I have a t-bird 750@1100 and it runs at 40c no load and 45c after playing quake 3 for 1 hour. I would remove the hsf and clean off all the grease and start over just use a credit card and just smoth out a very thin layer of grease and make sure you heat sink is nice and flat and when you put it on its nice and snug. BTW what mobo are u useing and what bios????

Check to make sure you're making good contact between cpu and heatsink. At stock speed, it should not be that hot. You should be getting something around 45-50c with the stock heatsink, and good case airflow.

Renob,

Are you using the latest kt7 bios? Because, depending on your voltage, your chip core would run at least 24-28C over ambient temp. Which would mean an ambient case temp of around 60-70F. If you are using the latest(or later bios'), then your temps are very, very good for your setup. If you are using an earlier bios, your cpu temps are skewed about 10-12C too low.

DuronBoy,

The 1004D bios is not screwy, it merely includes Asus Temp adjustment, in an attempt to counteract the massive inaccuracies of the thermistor temp measurement.

Newer KT7 bios' do exactly the same thing. While neither bios' are accurate(nor are either mb's), the newer bios give you a much closer representation of what the actual full load cpu core temp would be.

If your HSF is warm, then that means that it is working to some degree. Is the case hot? Might ne that there is not enough cool air around the HSF to dissipate the heat.

inside the case it's 30c, but i don't think i'm getting much airflow, my case isn't that great about that, i think i should buy some huge intake fans...

i would get a better heatsink/fan but i busted one of those little nubs and i have to use a low pressure clip because that's the only one that fits. The corb popped that stupid plastic thing right off the socket

There's hope! Taisol is making a new cooler with a clip that uses all the little nubs! That way i can have the best cooler out there (Inside Hardware tested it and named it the new king cooler). I'll look into that. I get NO air movement in my case so I think hot air is sitting around my heatsink. Buying a PC cooler may fix that. I was thinking of building my own ducting till i saw that... With this new equipment i think i should do fine but i need about $100 to get all the new stuff.
