5850...? Buying used? It's a bit faster. 550 Ti ~ 6790, while 5850 ~ 6850.

5850 should be like 35~40% faster ... nobody knows how video cards will perform on an unreleased game.

most wanted and undercover run well on anything.

I would go with the 5850. I passed up both the 6850 and the GTX 460 for it. Neither of that is relevent but it is the better card.

Those cards were never even in the same class (price or performance) despite the similar numbering scheme.

ATI 5850 all the way.

We won't know if Skyrim's engine favors AMD or nvidia (or is neutral) until after it's released, but the 5850 is a much better card in general.

Dont forget you get phyx and cuda with the 550ti..

If it was being purchased as only a PhysX card, maybe. I don't think on it's own it has enough power though to be good at playing games with PhysX on. Unless you are just being facetious and I missed the sarc.

I've owned a sapphire radeon 5850 xtreme and palit geforce gtx 550 and out of the two the 5850 is faster. with the 5850 you get 1440 shader processors and with the gtx 550 you get 192. hmmm hard decision lol ;)

If there are dirty TWIWMTBP tricks afoot, the 5850 would still be faster, the vast majority of the time. Also, even with a new engine, I don't see Bethesda doing per-GPU optimizations. They've had the opportunity in the past, and never did, and neither nVidia nor AMD are hyping up the game.

Apples to oranges. A fairer comparison would be 288 SIMD engines to 192 CUDA cores.
