5850 or 6850?

Well this looks like a no-brainer but can't help thinking I must be missing something.

Anand's benchmarks seem to show the 5850 around 10% faster than the 6850, with not much change of interest in the noise or other features, yet right now I can jump on a Gigabyte 5850 offer at £115 while 6850's are around £150 (same as a GTX460 1gb).

Rig due for a major upgrade in about a year, would hope to hold onto the card for about a year after that (i.e. 2 years from now). Not totally desperate to upgrade this 4850 but is a little long in the tooth and I'm due a reward :)

Gaming at 1680x1040, on a Core2Duo E8400 with 4gb memory.

P.S. I take it I'll be OK with a Corsair 650W TX?

Grab the HD5850, no questions about it! Crazy price compared to the two slower cards. Your PSU will be fine. I'm running mine OCed on a HX520 with an OCed Q9450 and it's been running beautifully!

Yeah turns out it's the OC version to boot. May be a misprice, hope it's honoured!

I got my TP 650 to go Xfire, so you have more than enough for a single card.

There are a lot of cheap 58xx cards right now, they're clearing out inventory, as I don't expect 58xx cards to be made anymore. The 68xx cards are smaller dies and cheaper for AMD, and they want these to be "the" cards in the $200-ish price range.

58xx cards that are being sold now are whatever is left in inventory. Get them while they last.

get the 5850 and don't worry about the PSU. The Corsair 650W TX will handle your system easily
