5850 freezing at 65 c?

I just received my HIS 5850 yesterday and whenever the temp hit 65 degrees my comp would just freeze with whatever image was there at the time forcing me to hard boot my comp.

If I forced my fan to 100% manually and kept the temp under 65 degrees then the comp would be fine but I am not playing anything with that jet engine under my desk.

Is this common? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm returning the card back for my money, but if other 5850's do this than I don't know what to do. Is there any one brand of ATI cards that is usually better than the rest?

I will go for another 5850 but I think I'm going for either Sapphire or XFX, I think this time I will research a bit instead of impulse buying, thanks guys.

XFX has a double lifetime warranty as long as you register the product within 30 days of purchase. What that means is you get a lifetime warranty on the card, and you get a code that you can give to whoever you sell it to or give it to down the road. When they register the code, they get a lifetime warranty on the card too. Pretty good deal.

Sounds like one or more ram or VRMs is not making contact with HSF, maybe heat tape fell off in assembly. Before going through return I'd take off HSF, remove all tape, and arctic silver the chip, ram,& VRMs.

I generally mod everything so this may not work for every one...just speaking from experience.

Although voiding the warranty may not be the best thing to do at this moment.

I'd just RMA it.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Right now, this isn't your problem, it's the manufacturer of the card. Once you go modding things, it becomes your problem if something goes wrong.

Try to clean the pci slot and the card also and move rams and put them again, this should fix the problem if it because some stored electrical charge.
