You have to weigh in a lot of things:

Pluses:
+Should be faster than a single 5870, even with average crossfire scaling
+Possibly better future-proof performance, thanks to considerably better shader/texture performance.

Minuses:
-Drastic increase in power usage
-Not every game will scale well
-Loss of ROP performance means large performance hits with increases to resolution and AA.

Do you mean equal to a single 5870 or to 5870 crossfired??
To the first question they should be faster than a single 5870 since 5770 crossfired almost always beats a 5870.
If the second no they won't be equivalent 5870 crossfire should still be a good deal faster.

In terms of price though it's not worth it since you can get a 5870 at 400, 5830 CF would cost about 500.

You're much better off with 5770s CF at 300 with maybe 15% less performance than the 5830s.

Just wondering wondering if 2x 5830s > 1x 5870.

I have 2x 5870s so I don't care but some people might want to buy 2x 5830s if they can buy them at less than $200.
