How does this compare to getting a MC combo on the 5820K? I thought that you could get that CPU + mobo at MC, for around $450, then the RAM for $150 at Newegg. That's like $600.

Still, for someone without an MC nearby, that's a pretty decent deal... (I guess? I don't follow Haswell-E pricing closely. But I believe you.)

Edit: I'm still rocking a G3258 / Gigabyte H81 combo deal that I picked up for $90. Didn't OC so high on that board, but it was cheap.

I don't know what deals MC has going on, as I don't have one anywhere near me.

Nice price but that's still a lot for the Haswell E bandwagon.

That's correct. Microcenter deal would be about $450.00 + Tax, so about $480.00.

Decent DDR4 is about $160.00 on Newegg. So you're looking at about $640.00 after tax for all.

You also have to figure if you have a microcenter remotely near you, you'll probably have to pay tax. So add about $30-50 tax plus gas and driving time. The Newegg deal isn't that bad for a one stop shop, delivered to your door job.

I checked out MC's website to see what all the fuss was about. The 5820k is $300 there which is an unbelievable price (about $90 cheaper than anywhere else). There is no advertised bundle for the MSI SLI Plus which sells for $200 there ($20 rebate is still valid). That's $500, the RAM is $180 on Newegg which puts the total at $680. Add in tax on the $500 for board and CPU, and Newegg will be cheaper. Newegg also delivers to your door. So, this is a great deal for people with no MC in the area and still a bit of a deal even if you do.

If you're substituting in different parts you invalidate the comparison. Besides, if you're dropping $700 on a base configuration, do you really want to be getting the cheapest of everything?

On page 33 of their online add it lists the motherboards that are available for discount ($40.00 off) when bundled with a 5820K. The board is $139.99 after rebate with the instant discount.
