I just ordered a System from CyberPower but it hasn't been assembled. I'm starting to have second thoughts about my 580 power supply. would 580w be enough for this system? I bought a Radeon 4870 1gb card to go with this.

Depends on the quality of the power supply. The only PSU I can think of off the top of my head that's rated for 580w is a Hiper unit that would be sufficient in powering the HD4870.

Yea, Hiper is all I can think of too. Should be fine but what are you using this for? If you are gaming, i7 with a single 4870 is kinda unbalanced unless you are just playing flight simulator, in which case the quad is much more important.

It's mostly for gaming, the cyberpower system is $900 with OS, and the hd4870 1gb was $190. I was thinking later I could just add another 4870 but a 580 power supply might no be able to handle that idk. So this system is unbalanced? for $1000 is there a better way?

You can't blindly be guided by pure wattage ratings when buying a power supply.
The "quality" of the unit is more important than any "advertised" wattage rating.

I wouldn't trust anything less than that 650w corsair ($68 more than the 580w and $108 more than the base config).
So if you are not afraid of swapping components, just go with the base config and add a power supply yourself. You can get a much better one for $100, or even $40.
I recommend 750w for i7 + xfire. Try Corsair 750w ($80 after rebate @ buy.com)
If you want cheaper, you could check out these PSUs at newegg.
Anand's article showed 420W at load for qx9770 + 4870 cf but almost all of that would be on 12V rail so look for something that would support >400W on 12V rail. Hell, even Corsair 450W model shows max of 396W on 12V rail, but give it some headroom and go for the 750w from buy.com, especially seeing as cost difference is a mere $10. That $10 should buy a lot of peace of mind when you add components later on or apply a monster overclock to that i7.

Edit: by the way, here's the corsair 750w @ buy.com
and here's a $5 off $100 coupon but you'll have to add $0.01.

thanks, I'll probably go with 750w corsair, and tomorrow I'll call and upgrade to 6gb ddr3 memory.
