Ive been reading around and it seems like most places the benches show this thing was an absolute speed demon. Were people only complaining about heat and noise?

I mean most of us harcore overslockers machines sound like war hoovers. Who the hell would even notice?

It true that many of the benchmarks show this as being faster or as fast at the 9800 when not using AA or AF. The heat should not be an issue because of the fxflow cooling, but the fx flow is loud. I don't mind the sound when playing games, i just turn up the speakers.

Not true. Many overclockers care about their work/play environment and have very quiet machines. My P4 rig is overclocked, very fast and almost silent. Its not all that hard to do. You just have to be smart about which components you choose.

I just read a review of the 5900u at guru and it showed the 5800 as faster then the 9700 with many features enabled as well,..

Yea, I too am wondering about why the 5800 is so weak? Was it because it didn't beat the pants off of cards ATi already had released?

This may turn out the be a heck of a deal card in 6 months or so. But I suppose they quit making it by now?

yes the new drivers make it pretty much faster than a 9700 Pro, little behind 9800 Pro.

No deal for you, they have quit making it ;)

Once the 5900s are out these cards will be cheap Nutxo. If the economy 5900 offers similar performance to the 5800, and has an MSRP of $300, and is quieter/cooler, you should be able to pick up 5800 Ultras cheap new and used.

I'd think the 5800's will be phased out before we can see them with a budget price. nVidia practically admitted to making a mistake with the 5800 and the 5900 is the fix to that problem, a replacement in otherwords, not a new product all together to work with the 5800 (as they'd actually compete with each other). Its also why we aren't seeing complete blow out performance from an NV35, just the acceptable perfromance rise we were expecting from the NV30 last Nov/Dec.

I'm pretty sure that the 5800 line (both ultra and non-ultra) isn't being made anymore. You can hardly find them anywhere. I'm sure that nvidia is putting all resources in the 5900 line instead.

I believe they made 100,000 so they could call it an official release. Anyway, if you check Pricewatch, there are places with them in stock. I don't know how many cards at this end of the spectrum they normally sell, so I don't if that makes this a "rare" card or not.

BFG
Uh, that in itself is highly debateable.
Er, but BFG, in Anand's review with the new DetFX drivers the 5800 Ultra is approximately equal to the R9700Pro, and the aniso has been fixed. It actually probably wins more setting than it loses.
So are you saying your 9700Pro is not a speed demon? When are you going to get a card that is then?

yeah BFG, the ORIGINAL reviews it was hampered by drivers designed for the GeForce 4, the new drivers and the more recent reviews that the 5800 Ultra is in fact VERY comparable to the 9700 Pro, and even the 9800 Pro in some things, and yes, the Ansio has been fixed (although I still love 6xaa on the 9700).
