5800 Ultra or 9800np?

I thought i had made up my mind about 9800np, but from another forum, i get the impression that all 9XXXnp use cheap materials and are not as reliable as 9XXXpros. I looked at the 3DMark 2001SE benchmark scores and searched for the values for the system im going to put the video card in and the 5800ultra seems to be better than the 9800np by 1000 points, where the 5800ultra is in the 15000s and the 9800np is in the 14000s.

Im using headphones most of the time so sound may not be that much of a problem. Price i see isnt that far from each other so, is the 3DMark 2001SE benchmark biased, or is the 5800ultra really better than the 9800np?
 
But evidence points towards FX5800ultra as being better.

A friend also says that he could OC a 5800ultra to 2x it's speed. He might be BSing, but who knows...
He seemed to really like the FX5800ultra produced by Asus

Aside from noise levels, why is the 9800np better?
 
LOL no way idiot friend could be running 1000/2000, but the 5800 non Ultras do seem to OC from 400/400 to 500/1000 with some regularity. Mine did, the only 4 reviews I could find of it did as well.
 
Forget the 5800.

But, if you must buy one, get the regular. As Rollo said, most OC to Ultra speeds, and without that ridiculous fan. I wonder if nV just shifted all cards, Ultra and non, to the non-Ultra name and HSF (which may explain the easy OCs).
 
9800np

sapphire, powercolor, they are both great cardmakers and sapphire even makes some built by ati cards for ati.

I'm thinking the $300 MSRP 5900 value may turn out to be 5800 non-ultras, perhaps at Ultra speed or a bit below.

My french is too rusty for that review, but the 5800 Ultra should be as good as anything at up to 12X10X32, 4X AA, 8X AF. (for the most part)

I've been tempted to buy Nippyjuns Ultra just to experience the FlowFX fury myself, even though my non Ultra runs quiet at 500/1000. Such is my mania.....

btw...the 5800U is a overclocked 5800...so that answers wutevr oc questions u have.
9800pro is oc version of 9800 ect.

They dont use cheaper parts, its just that if the cards designed to run its memory at say 500mhz, then why supply it with memory that can run at 600mhz? It just adds to the cost. Manufacturers usually put on memory that can clock slightly higher than the stock speeds, for safety.
The 9800np is slightly slower than a 9700pro, but can probably be OC`d to 9800pro levels.
The 5800Ultra`s fan at full speed, you will be able to hear over your Headphones. Guaranteed. The 9800np`s, on the other hand, you wont.

Hes bullsh1ting you there. There is no way that he can make any card 2x as fast just by OCing. Plus hes probably a Nvidia nut, so hes probably slightly bias.


Here are the reasons for getting the 9800np over a 5800Ultra.
1) Its better.
2) Its quieter
3) Its got better IQ
4) It can probably OC to 9800pro levels.
5) Its FSAA is better.
6) Did i mention its better? I did? Just making sure.
7) Just to be certain, i did mention its better did`nt i? I sometimes forget...

I have a "Built By ATI" 9800np with cheap ass memory. Can't overclock the RAM to nothing. I really mean nothing, maybe 10 Mhz.

Which I see so many others who bought the 9800np got stuck with too.

There's one problem with this- why would the company put the same RAM on the model that's $100 cheaper? No one would buy the Pro? The people who did would feel cheated?

Yeah. Just so people don't get all to excited thinking they can easily overclock the non-pro to pro speeds. The core you can overclock to 400 MHz + for the extra boost easy however, but if you are expecting the same performance in 1200 x 1600 res like what the pro version can do, wrong.
 
Mania, indeed, Rollo. 😉 Short video clips of the Ultra are enough to convince me to stay away from that sanity-crushing fan. "Fury" is right--some nV engineer had it in for the end-users. 🙂

You can use Google or Babelfish for a functional translation of the page.
 
i would get a Asus 5800, its a great card and i jus revisited futuremark.com and discovered that the 5800 not ultra was leading the 9800np by 600 points. Then again 3Dmark03 has a problem detecting the clock of the 9800np (shows the same as the 9800p) so yah..i don't know how those compare yet. I'm about to buy both the 5800 and 9800np and settle ur silly arguing for good..damn.
