Thinking of upgrading my rig. Can't decide on 580 SLI or 6970 Tri-fire -in the UK I can buy both for the same price OR do I wait for the 6990 benches. Playing Arma 2 milsim which is as demanding as Crysis so I would notice another 10fps.

6970 trifire will be better than 580sli and only cost about 100 bucks more let us know how that build works out.

Why not grab a 6970 and then a 6990 when it releases? Just a though :)

What about a 6950 Tri-fire? That would be ~$900 and would be pretty darn close to the 6970 tri-fire and cost a decent amount less than both a 580SLI or 6970CFx3 system.

Well that's an option BUT will I notice the difference in games I play? It would cost me £300/$400 but I don't see the 6950 far enough ahead in benchmarks to really justify it. I'm getting good performance from current setup but I do think the extra memory of either 6900 would help as of course would 1.536Gb for the 580's.

if you're only playing in 1920x1080, nothing noticeable. if you're playing a much higher res or eyefinity, absolutely you'll see a difference :)

can u even find a 580gtx in stock anywhere thats not from a 2nd named company?

Meaning... something not Galaxy, or PNY...

My eVGA 580GTX's SC has been backordered almsot 3 weeks now.
And even on eVGA's website they are all out of stock for a long time now.

I think you should look more on time scale...

Waiting 3 weeks, with gpu water blocks, waiting to do a waterblock review on the differences between air cooling a gpu card vs watercooling it, is becoming very very painful.

If you go for Triple SLI 580 then you might as well go all out on 6970 quad-fire and save 20$ while your at it.

6970 xfire is very likely to be faster than gtx 580 sli at that high of a resolution. even on 2560x1600 8xAA they are only ~ 5% different in single configuration. 6970 is great for ultra high end gamers, it's just not very exciting at 1920x1200. as stated earlier, no need to get 3 of them even at this point.
