Shes getting up in the 100 range if im not careful. Im thinking it needs some thermal paste, ive had the gpu for over a year now. Rarely overclock it but i noticed a few days after ocing the temps started to rise (Month Ago). (Tribes ascend) fan speed needs to be at 95 to keep temps under 85c. With Mass Effect 3 same thing fan speed 90-95 temps 75-80c range. Now ive got two types of thermal paste formula5 and cool masters evo 212 thermal paste. Thinking about use the evo's TP but just wanted to ask around before hand.

Have you cleaned the heatsink of dust? There could be a lot of it built up in a years time and that woudl certainly raise temps.

I personally couldn't tell you which thermal paste would be better, I used Artic Silver on an overheating northbridge once, and AS and the stuff Cooler Master ships with their heatsinks on CPUs.

Something is wrong. My first guess would be case airflow if you've addressed the possibility of dust buildup. Try running with your side door removed and see if that helps.

The difference between thermal pastes is, in extreme cases, a few degrees. If the stock paste has gone bad (which seems unlikely to me), either one would do the trick.

I have a 6870 and tribes ascend is pretty brutal on my card as well, it goes as high as 85c in that game. Just cause 2 it barely breaks 70. I have to ramp up my cooler to 90% manually before i play ascend.

i just put some cooler master on it and it dropped it 11c at idle.Yeah, when i was overlooking the gpu there were a few bald spots, so problem solved (Voided Warranty Now). ill boot up tribes later when i get home later to see the final results. I can OVERCLOCK AGIAN!!!!!

Huge difference when running tribes, 76c Fan speed 80. At 950:1435 fan speed 90 70c. Im thinking about pushing some voltz on that badboy
