I'd like to upgrade my 8800 GTS to an HD 5770 but I'm concerned about some reports of general system stability with drivers. What do you think? I'd be willing to spend a bit more if I was sure I'd have more chance of success, but my choices seem limited.

Rest of my system: E6600, P5K, 2GB DDR2, Win 7.

It's a good upgrade, it's faster and gives you DX11. The drivers are just as stable as any other GFX card, just make sure you clean out all the old ones from NV.

Read the other FUD thread for more information:

On page 3 Xarick decides ATI drivers aren't so bad after all:
Okay after running through most all my other games I will say I take back most of my negativity. Gothic is the only one I had issue with..everything else runs without problems. So ATI may have some issues, but overall it runs just fine. So I apologize for my earlier ranting. If one expects problems one does not have to look hard to find them.
That being said I will say that the ati card plays much nicer with my monitor than the nvidia card.. which is odd. What I mean by that is the nvidia card would not allow aspect until it's software loaded. ati allows aspect on boot which means the bios screen is no longer stretched and skewed.

Plus, since he bought ATI his house didn't burn down and no pets were eviscerated by exploding GTX fragments.

Personally, i've used Cat.10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 drivers in xfire environment and they were rock solid w/ the following: Metro 2033, BC2, FFOW, COD4, & internet spades. :)
