I think it depends on how and when you price things. The way I look at crossfire is:
1. I can either buy a 5850 for 300 or a 5770 for 150 now and they'll both get over 30 fps in the games I play right now.
2. Some months from now when DX11 games are more mainstream and the 5770 is falling behind I now have the option of either:
a) spending about 130 and getting a second card and performance around a 5870.
b) selling it probably around $100 and getting a 5850 or similar(probably about 250 at this point).

This is all speculation about prices, but in my experience the mainstream cards keep their resale value better(since they have less to go and larger target market). The High end cards( like the 8800GTX Ultra was 700+ in 2007) can fall in value quickly(about 100 something now) so mainstream provides more options in the future with a bit of work.

My thoughts exactly.

who is this freak? take it easy buddy.

Wow, way to add to the conversation. I was adding information to answer the question of the OP. People should know what problems they may experience with multigpu solutions before purchasing them. The OP asked a question that related to that possibility and as a member of Anandtech I wanted to help so I found and posted information.

OOC what did you add? Basically you are trolling and derailing the thread. This will be my only post on this issue and I apologize for acknowledging the the post at all.

My reply had nothing to do with yours. It was directed at the OP who went apeshit on someone who made a mistake in trying to help with the problem.

That explains how you spent $1800 on a system with just a 5770 in it. Uncle sam's portion was quite a bit.

The way I look at it..if you think its a deal then its a deal. Enjoy it!

it started out as a budget PC that ended up including an HP2509 (25'' monitor) which may have pushed it over the line a lil, the only thing I kept was the tower, bottum line is next time I get the opportunity, I got some great uprade choices to work with
