5770 CF to 6870 CF

The new midrange looks really good at the moment. My question is that can a 6870 CF will blow me away with setup I have atm? can a 650 TX can handle these new guys w/o any oc?

I'm playing pretty much the latest games available (medal of honor atm) @ 1920x1080 and the new MLAA is a nice added feature as well. I probably can sell my 2x5770 to offset the upgrade price for the 6870s.

8-10 hrs of gaming per week...just to let you guys know 🙂

2x 5770 is like = 5870 i think (might be off by abit)
2x 6870 is somewhere between 470 SLI and 480 SLI.

they vastly improved crossfire scaleing with the 6xxx series, yes you ll be blown away.

also again drivers are still young for a new architecture, so improvements over time in drivers should show decent performance increases.

A pair of 6870 should blow you away and be a good investment, also because some say the 6xxx series like the 5xxx series has a fixed tessellation unit that doesnt scale with shaders, and that tessellation might be more important in the future. The idea of haveing 2 tessellation units working together is a def. bonus, crossfire tessellation should be better than singel card.

I'd personally go 6850 CF, better price/performance, especially when you're buying two. Also, they seem to overclock similarly to the 6870, so I think the final performance will be very close (<10&#37😉. Either setup will blow away 5770 CF though.

Why don't you wait 1 month and go for a single 6950/6970 instead of CF 6870?
Should be around the same price, same performance, and you avoid the CF issues.

Also good advice. Another month isn't much and the 69xx series really could deliver.

6950 and 6970 cards will have a differnt architecture than the 6850 and 6870.
The 6850/6870 are 5xxx series + a few improvements.

the 6950/6970 will have the same improvements the 68xx's have but more than that supposeingly. Which could mean we re likely to see them bring new features and a decent step up in performance compaired to the 68xx cards.
