5770 CF power draw

Do you guys reckon that a corsair hx520w could power the following?

i5 750 (@stock)
5770 CF
2 sticks of ram
couple of hdds
1 optical drive

And assuming it could how about throwing a small overclock on the i5 in the mix? (like 3.2-3.4).

Just out of curiosity, why are you going 5770 CF as opposed to say a single 5850, which is the same price and performs better w/o the CF headaches?

Valid question, TemjinGold.

Though from what I've seen on reviews/benchies 5770 CF easily outperforms a single 5850 and can reach 5870 performance or more. Though surely the CF solution is more expensive than a single 5850.

My plan is to get 1 5770 on the coming days (building a new system) and down the road when 5770 drops in price and more demanding titles pop I'll buy another one. So I was wondering if my newly bought PSU could handle em.

Personally I think that 5850 right now is quite expensive (but it definitely delivers). I don't consider my self an enthusiast, just your normal gamer and I don't mind losing on AA/FA to make my titles playable. Though I do want to game at my monitors native res (1920x1080).

TLDR: Right now with the titles I plan on playing I think that a single 5770 will suffice. But down the road I think I might grab another one and I'd like to know if my PSU could handle em.

Fair enough. Though CF/SLI as I understand it should generally be a "now or never" deal. It might be a better idea for you to simply ebay the 5770 and grab a 5870 when "down the road" comes around. In either case, I have that same PSU and it should be fine.

A 5850 can be software modded to 5870 using MSI'S "afterburner" witch is really rivatuner with updates.
Some of the newer 5770 were sold with only 720 unified shaders (I guess they were flashed with the wrong bios) a google of the internet will produce info you may need. You can find out if your unit has the problem by using GPU-Z witch will inform you as soon as opened if it has this condition or not. ATI has released a statement and a BIOS update also bear in mind if the bios flash should go bad you will be left with a bricked GPU and no warranty. A link to the thread at tech power up..

Accoriding to this review, two 5770s will draw 230w in 3D mode and 44w in 2D WHEN RUNNING BOTH CARDS - divide those watt numbers by 2 for single card use in 2 & 3D modes.
