how come anandtech hasn't reviewed a 5900 non ultra?
And can you go into more detail on why you say this without a doubt. I'm not that hard core of a gamer. I mainly play console games. I'll get HL2 when it comes out, and see that ATI 9600pro is going well in that. I jsut want a card that can play the games, maybe not to fullest extent, for anotehr year or two. I had a Geforce 2GTS before the card I will chose. And I'm back to playing PC games (ffxi) and need a stronger card. I had considered the 5200 Ultra, only 1 hundred bux, but don't know if i want to get anotehr card in a year that will prob be equiv of a 5900 at that time or wut. I don't want to spend for sure anymore than 200. When I got my Gf2gts the Gf3's were just coming out so I paid about 180 for my Gf2gts. I was thinking about the same. I have a 2500+ Barton with 512MB ddr333mhz. Thanks for all the help. And wut is your honest opion as the pc only cost me 350 before the vid card. Thanks again.

The 5900 easily the DDR2 on the 5700Ultra does nothing interms of performance. The 5900 is a good chunk faster than than the 5700ultra in all categories esspecially if there is NO price difference.

The GeforceFX 5900nu kills any mid rang card From ATI or Nvidia !!! dont compare mid rang cards too High end cards .. you will seam like a fool.

What you have just asked is if the ATI 9600TX is faster then the 9800 non Pro ...

Its a stupid thing too ask when we all know the high end card is the better performer !

the 5900 pro is faster in every single bench test in every single game on the face of this earth !! when compared too the 5700 Ultra or any other mid rang card the ... DDR 2 does nothing when the card only has a 128bit memory bus.... the 5900 has DDR1 but because its got a 256bit memory bus that gives it twice the amount of memory available then the 5700 Ultra .... so the 5700 is just another crap midrang pile of junk thats a wast of money.

if you want too get a mid rang card then the ATI 9600 Pro's are at very nice price !! at the moment but if you want the best bang for buck go for the FX5900

The reason I was comparign is becasue the 5700U is new, and the 5900 is an older card, replaced with a 5900U and now a 5950U.

5900 NU is the 5900 Ultra but at a slower speed(to be honest 10-20%). For the same price the 5900 NU will smoke a 5700 Ultra or 9600 XT. AFAIK the 5900 is still in production but for some reason the price has fallen out on them. Like I mentioned in my thread I think Nvidia is waging a price war with ATI for the mid range using 5900 NUs as the weapon of choice. For 200 bucks you just cant go wrong with a 5900. This I expect will push the 5700 Ultra to 150 where it belongs duking it out with the 9600 XT. ATI wont have an answer unless they want to push the 9800 NP to 200 bucks. That would be tougher for ATI as their chips are bigger to produce and I think they are being bundled with HL2 now???

Right now it appears alot of people are grabbing up 5900s at 220 bucks. 2 friends just ordered them and I am building a machine for another with a 5900 in it. Price was just too good a deal for them apparently

Actually the 5900U was released before the 5900 (non-ultra) so technically the 5900U is the older card. However the're very similar in speed (especially when overclocked) and the 5900nu crushes the 5700 in gaming performance. It's really no competition.

It's easiest to think of a 5900 as practically twice a 5700U in almost every way (twice the fillrate, memory bandwidth, pixel shader power). DDR2 may be "one higher" than DDR, but it's otherwise unremarkably different at the speed both cards have their memory clocked.

The 5700 is basically a cut-down 5900, so both are equally new. Architecturally, they're the same generation of cards. 5200-5600-5800 are first-gen FX's, and 5700-5900 are second-gen. nV may release a second-gen version of the 5200 soon, though I'm not sure it'll be as big of an improvement as the 5700 and 5900 were over the 5600 and 5800, respectively.
