$57 for comcast cable internet? ARE THEY INSANE?! (plus question about verizon DSL)

What the hell, why on earth did they up the charge after they took over AT&T? I think i'm going to go with verizon though... does anyone know if you get a discount on your monthly charge if you buy your own DSL modem?

I agree. 57 is a bit much for broadband. I remember when @home first came out, wasn't it only like $25 per month or something? Too bad the only options in my area is comcast or 28.8...

Verizon for the most part does not allow you to use your own modem. You have to use the modems they provide in their startup kit. If you keep the service for more than a year, the modem is yours to keep for free. What current DSL modem do you have?

Of course this is how Verizon West runs things, and East may be slightly different.

Well, i don't have an ADSL modem, but i was just wondering. I guess i'll use their modem, thanks for the tip!

It's funny. When I switched to Comcast as my ISP, I didn't have cable for tv. They told me it was $57/month if you just got their internet, but $43/month if you got their ISP and basic cable with them. So I figured, "what the hell, I'll just do that." What they try to do is get you to buy their premium packages, but since I had little need for cable TV to begin with, I never bothered.
