56K modem problem

Hi,

I've got a flat-free ISP which is quite cheap but also bad to reach.
Because the line is often busy i have to try again .. and again, but
lately the modem stops dialing after 16 times and gives the following error:
" The connection with the port has been broken by the external computer "
I'm getting sick of this because i have to reboot to be able to dial again.
I have a 56K LT Winmodem (ISA) using driver version 5.48.

Help is welcome 🙂

You can increase the number of redial attempts in DUN properties. Or, you can manually disconnect before you get to 16 and perhaps that will release the modem. In any case, you shouldn't be having to reboot to get the modem back - look for an updated driver on the mfg's web site.

If you can't get through on 16 tries, it may be time for a new ISP. That's rediculous. When I was on dialup, I would get through on the first try about 90% of the time. The other 10% was second try. This was with Bellsouth.net -- $20/month.
