my girlfriend's modem will not install on XP.

she's planning to ditch windows98, which is on her C: while XP is on her D:

i've told her to check the device manager, check the add new hardware wizard and download XP drivers, but none of them have worked.

she doesn't want to take the modem out of the case and re-insert it or anything, and i won't see her for a few more weeks

so can anyone help me out here?
