56k internet + DSL

Hello ,

is it possible , to make just one application on a Win2k computer use 56k modem , and everything else use DSL(ethernet card, at least as primary internet connection) ?

Thanks ,
bye.

Yes we do it at the office all the time. For example the company standard browser is Nutscrape Navigator but many people us IE5 for personal stuff. Netscape is set to work through the company proxy while IE5 runs throufh dialup.

What exactly do you want to do?

Why would you make IE5 use a dialup instead of the proxy, which I'd presume is on a faster connection? Do they rigidly enforce use of Navigator or something and use the proxy logs to check?

It would somewhat depend on the application. If the program allows you to set what connection profile it uses, then you can create a dialup account as well as the standard network settings and tell the program which to use. However some programs just use the settings assigned to your web browser, so if you use IE5 and it's set to use the Ethernet card, then the program checking IE's settings would use the Ethernet.

I have one program , that uses internet all the time , something like a SETI@HOME client (but it uses much more traffic) , and I don't want for it to use traffic from DSL , and I want to make it to use a modem , and for everything else (ICS,games, browser) to use DSL. How will I go about that ?

Thank you,
bye.

And I can't set in the program, what connection to use ... and I don't know where it takes, what connection to use ...

Lord, our intranet page is optimized for Netscape 4.0 and many of the features such as expense reports and equipment requests do not work properly with IE. Its pretty damn backwards but that how things go. We gotta kick some webmaster ass. The proxy also blocks many where people can "waste time" such as banks and stuff. Those that do their banking online just go through dialup. It not unusual to see people doing their work on Netscape while a IE is chugging along on dialup.
