My friend has a Dell Inspiron 6000 and a custom built desktop PC. The Inspiron runs pretty well on 56K, but the other PC is running extremely slow. He also has the WiFlyer dial-up WiFi router. I connected the PC via the the ethernet port on the router and the connecteion was extremely slow. Then I connected it directly to the phone line and it was still extremely slow. The Inspiron was fine via the WiFi connection and also via the telephone line directly. Btw, the PC has the following configuration:
-Sempron 2600+ (64-Bit BX version)
-Biostar K8NHA Grand
-512MB Corsair Value RAM
-GF2 Ultra
-40GB Seagate 7200.7 IDE HDD
-BenQ 1640 DVD burner
-some 56K modem from 1999
-WinXP Pro w/ every single update
-every nForce driver available

Thanks for any help.

Thanks a lot for your help JackMDS. I will try changing the MTU when I go to his house again in a couple of weeks. I set his PC in my house and I never tried it with dialup since I didn't have his account password. I personally don't have access to dialup, so I couldn't test it until it was in his house. I could change the MTU for the ethernet port to 576? Or could I only do it for the modem? Btw, I just ran the MTU changing program on my Dell Inspiron 8600 right now and it only detected my WiFi card, IEEE1394 port, and the ethernet port, but it did not mention my 56K modem. Is this program only good for changing the MTU on network cards, but not modems? If it's not good for modems, how do I go about changing the MTU for modems? His PC will be connected via ethernet to the WiFlyer router, btw, but I would like to know how to change the MTU on a modem. Thanks again and happy holiday.
