568A and 568B Wiring confusion....

I was always told that there was not difference b/t the two specs as long as you stay consistent throughout the whole project. Well, I networked my whole house in 568A, and now I see the damn Linksys Router/4port switch wants everything in 568B. So now my only choices are to get a patch panel or re-crimp everything into 568B, correct? But my cable modem has a 568A wire coming from it to the PC. So when I put the router into the network, I will need a crossover cable to the cable modem from the router, correct? How come the companies don't really emphasize these specs very much? You would think that Linksys would write on their box that it takes 568B, with all the other specs. Doesn't it seem logical?

A wire is a wire. It doesn't matter which one you use as long as it's the same on the other side. If you do 586a on one side and 586b on the other you have a crossover cable. If you leave them the same then you have a straight through cable. The crosses are just to prevent interference.

a straight through cable should also be used between the router and modem. at least thats what i have done in my setup.

The actual wires used are the same pairing. all that changes from a to b is what color is used for certain pairings and which pin pairs are considered pair 1,2,3,4. They are somewhat interchangeable.

568A and 568B difference is in color code of 2 pairs.
Normally 568B used, but some places are complete 568A.
So use any, but make sure whole wiring is the same color code.

568B is almost exclusively used in all premade connectors... and what i prefer to use as a color code....

568A is used more in europe and is backwards compatible with phone color code wiring...

the only difference between the two is switching the orange with the green pairs.

in the end it doesn't matter as long as the connector is straight thru, ie wire 1 is the same wire on both end. the twists and wire use are designed to prevent crosstalk..... some morons don't understand that and don't flip the blue pair.
